The hotel is not within walking distance of the shrine of Pietrelcina, but is located in a residential area that is close to the shrine. This was not necessarily a disadvantage, as the area around the shrine has been rather built up and looks like a tourist trap.

There is a van on standby to take guests to the shrine. The van has seen better days but served its purpose and in about five minutes we were at the shrine. For pick up we had to call the hotel reception and within less than 15 minutes our ride back to the hotel arrived.

The room was simple and spacious, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was sufficient but the coffee rather bad. Dinner at the hotel restaurant on the night we arrived (it was Easter Monday so we had very few options) was good. Staff were friendly and helpful although sometimes the reception desk was left unmanned, probably because members of the staff were multitasking.

If being within walking distance of the shrine is not your prime consideration, this hotel offers good value for money.

Booked in offseason so few guests at hotel. Bus arrival at 7:30 PM and no cabs in sight; friendly locals called hotel which came immediately to our rescue!
Hotel was inexpensive especially in Nov. Rooms were plain but clean and functional. Shower water temps were a bit uneven.
The breaksfast was good, but the best part was the helpful staff who made our visit memorable. They drove us to the Padre Pio shrine and back to bus stop when leaving for no charge (actually had to insist on them accepting tip on last drive). The staff also spoke excellent english; not everyone does in San Gio.

Highly recommend side trip to town of Monte St Angelo to visit the St Michael (Arch Angel) shrine (grotto was beautiful) and the old castle. The bus fare to this place is extremely good value.

Myself and my Mother stayed there for one night. The rooms are clean. No frills to it and that's the way it should be as it is orientated towards pilgrims. The breakfast was very nice and the owners couldn't do more for us.

It is a good walk from Padre Pio Shrine however, there is a hotel shuttle bus which will bring you there and back free of charge.

Before going to San Giovanni, we were already in Europe for 2 weeks. We had terrible experiences on the unfriendly hotel staff, prison kind food, no internet.
This simple hotel in the quaint town of San Giovanni beat all the 4 star and business hotels that we stayed in.
They pick you up from the station, bring you to Padre Pio personally. The food is also delicious and reasonably priced. Internet is also free. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
Kudos to Best Western :) Keep it up!
