“Alte-Werft Papenburg: good food, nice rooms, great service”

If you didn't know it before, Alte Werft reminds you that Papenburg is all about ships! But they do it in a "not too overdone" way. Their rooms are a good size and well outfitted. The decor is a little dated and you'll pay for internet but honestly, when you meet the staff and enjoy their breakfast and brunch, all that fades away. The service there is warm and welcoming. Being here on business for a month, I visited a number of hotels in the area and of them, AW was the best service and friendliest staff. Newer more modern chain properties were "polite" but the AW staff (especially the breakfast buffet team) were great and made me feel welcome, remembered my breakfast preferences and accommodated unusual needs. The property is centrally located on Haupte Kanal Richt and within quick walking didtance to shops, restaurants and groceries

They have a great brunch on Sundays at 11:30am (21 Euro pp) when all other area restaurants are closed or only serving cake.

For my money, time and peace of mind- Alte Werft gets my vote and my business.

“Very Nice Hotel”

Stayed at this hotel while on business in north-west Germany. It is built from an old ship dock and still has the dock structural parts as part of the dining area. The hotel is fairly new and the rooms are very spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and there is a nice dining area and bar. I did not have time to check out the exericse room, although the front desk said it could be available anytime I wished to use it.

I had a corner room which was very large by EU standards. It had a desk and wireless internet, a large closet area and a modern toilet and shower.

The hotel is located on a canal, next to a shopping area, close to the center of the town. Breakfast was very good, with a wide array of things to eat. The tea was exceptionally good - apparently, this is a famous area for importing and packaging tea in Germany.

I would highly recommend this hotel, I payed 99 Euros per night (breakfast included; a bit pricy at the current exchange rates of $1.20 per Euro.
