I highly recommend Fischerhaus. The rooms were very clean and spacious and there was a very relaxed atmosphere to the place. The bed was comfortable. Mary and Kristin (the managers) were both very helpful and we were able to converse quite comfortably in English. Both were also very helpful when it came to answering questions, booking a side trip, etc. Their website comes across as very German (odd for being in Germany, I'm sure) but for as well as they handle English I'm almost surprised the website isn't in both languages. I was greatly relieved because my German is limited. I stayed there for 8 nights so I know I got a good "taste" of the hotel. The breakfast is quintessential German so never exceptional but always good. The hotel is only a few minutes from the S-bahn; just make sure when you "leave" the S-bahn tunnel that you go out toward the street (not the lake) and head left. Just follow that road as it turns and you'll see the street for the hotel up on the right about a block. My only complaint about the stay was the barking dog down the street...but at least he was quiet when I was trying to sleep. Starnberg itself is busier than I would have expected, especially on the weekend. I would stay there again for sure.
