My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Vecchio Viola for a night when visiting one of the most beautiful lakes in the world - Lago di Garda. The choice of the hotel was determined by its excellent location in Peschiera del Garda - one of the only two towns on the lake which have a train station. The hotel is only a few hundred meters from the main promenade along the lake, the beach and the pier with numerous boats connecting Peschiera with other towns of the Garda Lake. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel one can find numerous restaurants and bars with menus often adjusted to tourists' preferences (mostly Dutch, German and British).
The hotel itself is small but cozy with about 20 rooms. Gabriel, the owner, gave us a warm welcome and provided with all the necessary information as regards the lake, including free maps of the town and timetable of passenger ferries.
Our room was small with basic furnishing but clean. The same goes for the bathroom. The definite advantage was the working AC. There was no WiFi in the room but it was available for free in the lobby. The window was not soundproof and during the night we could hear loud music from adjacent bars where beach parties took place. In the morning a complimentary breakfast was offered in the hotel's dining room on the ground floor. The buffet breakfast which included cereals with milk, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, jam, croissants, juices, coffee and tea was pretty decent. I guess the major drawback of this hotel is an early checkout at 10 am. Nevertheless, the Hotel Vecchio Viola offers cozy and clean accommodation which is a good value for money. We would definitely stay at this hotel again!
