Hotel - great service, very accommodating and informative (especially Hilda). We walked in without reservations and they gave us a great rate (140 Euros per night), free wifi, parking and breakfast. They upgraded us a to junior suite, which was huge. 1 - 1/2 bath, beautiful bathroom, all amenities. The king size bed is a real king size, not two beds pushed together, like most European hotels. The linens are soft and comforting. This hotel is owned by the Lungarotti family, who also has a cantina.
They have a good bar and a variety of drinks.
Restaurant - good and not so good.
They have excellent service, by far the best we have ever seen. We had a 1997 Rubesco Montefalco Riserva from their cellar - only 40 Euros.
We started with sauteed squash blossoms filled with airy ricotta cheese with fresh cherry tomatoes & basil - absolutely perfect!
We then had the BEST risotto I have ever had (and I've had many). It was creamy, buttery, saffron with loads of chopped black truffles. The flavor was incredible and it was so creamy.
The second course is where I become disappointed. I had lamb which was cooked "well done", lamb should be medium at best. I would have even been happy with medium well. No pink whatsoever. It did however come with a fantastic passati (dessert wine) sauce with tomatoes and kumquats - the sweet and tart flavors together were great. My partner had a veal fillet with lardo. He liked his but again, "well done".
we haven't tried the spa but are anxious to do so.
I forgot to mention breakfast is included and there is a HUGE variety on the buffet. They even have a carrot juicer and an orange juicer (mix them together, they are fabulous and healthy), good proscuitto, hams, cheese, crossiants, etc. Yummy!
Really quiet location too.
