“Charming little hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

After a long, hot trip to get to Rhodes, hosts Efi and Spiros welcomed us with cold beer and big smiles. The setting is magical and historical. The garden for breakfast is cute and comfy; breakfast was yummy and ample. Our room was large enough, though a bit dark, quiet, and very comfortable (nice a/c), with an outdoor patio for peaceful relaxation. The Turkish-flavored decor is stunning. I peeked in several other rooms and they are all decorated with unique charm. This boutique hotel is a one-of-a-kind, olde world delight with hosts that went out of their way to make the best of our visit. They were helpful with our travel needs and made us feel "at home away from home." They also serve delicious dinner, not included in room rate, but soo worth it! Excellent service, fabulous homemade food. The Brits sitting next to us at dinner had returned after two years hoping the pork medallions in fig sauce were still on the menu and they were! I had them too -- out-of-this-world delish.

“Fantastic find in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We stayed here for three nights and loved every minute of it, Spiros and his wife were both fantastic hosts who made us feel very welcome. From the start we wer given advice on where to go, what to see and how to get there. The rooms are traditional Greek and are very nicely decorated and furnished, the food in the outside restaurant is first class and the breakfast is the best we have had in Greece, If you are looking for somewhere authentic with a great atmosphere then look no further than hear.

If you want all the in-room gadgets and services of a standard-tourist-board-rated hotel, you might be disappointed here. But if you want a one-off slice of pure magic, Marco Polo Mansion is for you. Food .... fresh, delicious, original and home-made. Efi and Spiros .... unbelievably welcoming and helpful. Garden, decor and rooms ....... individual, imaginative and inspirational.

“WOW - amazing place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

I cannot say enough about this little gem of a hotel. We stayed only for 2 nights but our hosts were above and beyond hospitable. Food was amazing. Right from the greeting and welcoming snacks to the farewell and the arranging of our transportation they exceeded our expectations. The rooms are functional and cute but nothing fancy and very clean.

“Don't think twice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

I wouldn't think twice about returning to the Marco Polo mansion. Everything about it was amazing. The way it's tucked away on a small winding side street, the hidden courtyard where Efi serves up the most amazing Greek dinners (we ate dinner there twice, why go out?) and the timeless atmosphere of a place that is centuries old and immaculately decorated. A coffee table book has even been published about this place, available to peruse and buy in the lobby.
My husband and I went here for our honeymoon in September, so heat was never really a problem. Can't speak for how it is in summertime, but this place was built before air conditioning and they make the most of cross-breezes. Like many hotels in Greece, some rooms for two had two twin beds instead of a queen or king, but we stayed in two different rooms where they had queen-sized beds. (We could only afford the cheapest room, but when Spiros learned we were on our honeymoon he upgraded us for as many nights as he had better rooms available.) One night we stayed in a fabulous suite with soaring ceilings, a separate bedroom and sitting area, a private entrance and courtyard. I felt like a princess!
The one downside, privacy was somewhat lacking. The windows are nearly always open. Depending on what side you're on, that's either to a narrow pedestrian street, or to the hotel courtyard. But I didn't care, my husband and I were both so in love with the charm and uniqueness of this place.
Some couples we met were there were regulars. One was returning for their 10-year anniversary! This is the kind of place to cherish and return to again and again.

One last recommendation: visit Rhodes in the early fall or late spring and you will have SUCH a better experience. The streets were uncrowded and there were better deals everywhere. Everyone told us that being there in summer is to be shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of other European tourists.
