I would highly recommend this charming hotel. Just off the main road in Perissa, the Philoxenia hotel is situated between a small supermarket and residential apartments. It has a very pretty courtyard, with a small swimming pool, sunloungers and bar. As soon as we arrived we were whisked to our room by Maria the owner, who was very pleasant and checked we were happy with our room. The room was fairly large, with a double bed, and single bed with a small kitchen and dining area and a small wetroom bathroom. Very simple and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The maid was friendly and hard working and came in daily to clean the room. We had clean sheets and towels daily. The hotel owner and maid worked continuously to keep the hotel clean and tidy and were always available should you want a drink at the bar (a coffee and fanta were 5 euros). They also offered bar snacks, although we did not try them on this occasion.
The hotel offers bed and breakfast or self catering, we were self catering and found the kitchen area, sufficient for our needs. The air conditioning was adequate, not the best I have had, but we were comfortable. The air conditioning and safe cost 65 Euros. The bathroom was clean with a surprisingly powerful shower (my first impression was that it would trickle). Overall I would highly recommend this small, very friendly, immaculately kept hotel. Near to all the amenities of Perissa, which we adored.
The location was quiet and restful and the hotel mainly consisted of other couples, there were no children the week we stayed, but they welcomed our friend staying at a nearby hotel and her daughter for the afternoon for a splash in their pool. Although it was just me and my husband I would take my teenage children, although for their entertainment I would use the hotel as a base and for a swim. There is plenty of entertainment in Perissa, the seafront is a short walk from the hotel and it has plenty of bars and resturants both on the seafront and along the main road in Perissa. The beach was nice and clean, with lots of sunbeds.
A couple of tips, lovely bakery 2 minutes from our hotel, open 24 hours and sells lovely bread, cakes, pizzas and icecreams. The cheapest supermarket is the Co-op, about ten minute stroll up the main road. But there were several supermarkets in Perissa. We ate several times at The Volcano restuarant on the seafront, about 40 Euros for two, including wine or beer. Their mixed grills were really nice as were their Greek Salads.
Fira is not to be missed, lovely quaint shops and beautiful restuarants and bars overlooking the caldera. Oia and Imerovigli are both very beautiful and worth a visit. The sunsets were amazing, and we experienced them at Oia, Imervigli and Fira, but not too be missed on one of the rooftop restuarants in Fira or Oia, expensive but worth it.
We enjoyed a traditional tour and also the sunset cruise, although the food included on the sunset cruise was a very basic buffet and not very nice.
I hope to go back next year as it is a beautiful island with beautiful people. If you go and require a realiable and very nice transfer taxi or tour I highly recommend Nikos at http://www.onlava.com/onlava/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=114&lang=en
