“Lovely Quiet place to stay”

We stayed self catering for two weeks, basic rooms, but very, very clean ! as they were cleaned every day. Very quiet, seemed like only couples, so i don't recomend it for children under 12, as my 2 children, aged 5 & 7 had to be extremly quiet in the pool, which can sometimes be difficult when they are having so much fun ! they where told several times to keep quiet & not to splash !! but apart from that, lovely place to stay & lovely island.

“Quiet and relaxing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

I stayed at the Philoxenia Hotel with my partner on a bed and breakfast basis which we felt was perfectly adequate! The room that we got was very basic, like most hotels in Greece, and had 2 single beds and a fridge, and no TV. The bathroom was a wet room with no shower curtain and a shower which could be either hand held or on the wall, which is again the norm for Greece. We didn't need air con while we was there as the room was quite shaded in the daytime, but if you did want to pay for it, it would have cost 50 euros for 1 week. The safe cost 15 euros for 1 week. The hotel is very quiet and had mostly British guests and no children whilst we was staying there. The pool area was very pretty and there were always enough sunbeds, i was the first person by the pool at 9.15am! So no rush for getting sunbeds at the crack of dawn haha. For breakfast we got toast with jams, orange juice and a tea/coffee. This set us up nicely for the day.
The hotel is situated in a very good location in Perissa, the beach and main strip of bars and tavernas are about a 5 minute walk, there is a mini supermarket next door and a bakery 2 mins away. Around the pool area we felt we had to buy at least 1 drink from the hotel bar each day, as the owners sat watching everyone a lot of the day! A can of fizzy drink was 2 euros and a beer was 3 euros, a bit expensive but suppose it helps contribute to the hotels business. The food in Perissa was not that cheap, lunch around the beach was 6-7 euros for a toastie/burger, and dinner was approx 30-40 euros for 2 people. The Greek food was reasonable though, approx 6-7 euros for Souvlaki/Gyros. Cocktails were 5-7 euros, beer around 3 euros, fizzy drinks in the restaurants 2 euros.
We did the sunset cruise booked through the rep, which happened to be on the windiest day we was there and so the sea was VERY rough! A good trip, but not for people who get travel sickness!
I would definitely recommend this hotel and Santorini to people, its a lovely pretty place to go if your looking for relaxation!

“A charming, small hotel and we would love to go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

I would highly recommend this charming hotel. Just off the main road in Perissa, the Philoxenia hotel is situated between a small supermarket and residential apartments. It has a very pretty courtyard, with a small swimming pool, sunloungers and bar. As soon as we arrived we were whisked to our room by Maria the owner, who was very pleasant and checked we were happy with our room. The room was fairly large, with a double bed, and single bed with a small kitchen and dining area and a small wetroom bathroom. Very simple and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The maid was friendly and hard working and came in daily to clean the room. We had clean sheets and towels daily. The hotel owner and maid worked continuously to keep the hotel clean and tidy and were always available should you want a drink at the bar (a coffee and fanta were 5 euros). They also offered bar snacks, although we did not try them on this occasion.

The hotel offers bed and breakfast or self catering, we were self catering and found the kitchen area, sufficient for our needs. The air conditioning was adequate, not the best I have had, but we were comfortable. The air conditioning and safe cost 65 Euros. The bathroom was clean with a surprisingly powerful shower (my first impression was that it would trickle). Overall I would highly recommend this small, very friendly, immaculately kept hotel. Near to all the amenities of Perissa, which we adored.

The location was quiet and restful and the hotel mainly consisted of other couples, there were no children the week we stayed, but they welcomed our friend staying at a nearby hotel and her daughter for the afternoon for a splash in their pool. Although it was just me and my husband I would take my teenage children, although for their entertainment I would use the hotel as a base and for a swim. There is plenty of entertainment in Perissa, the seafront is a short walk from the hotel and it has plenty of bars and resturants both on the seafront and along the main road in Perissa. The beach was nice and clean, with lots of sunbeds.

A couple of tips, lovely bakery 2 minutes from our hotel, open 24 hours and sells lovely bread, cakes, pizzas and icecreams. The cheapest supermarket is the Co-op, about ten minute stroll up the main road. But there were several supermarkets in Perissa. We ate several times at The Volcano restuarant on the seafront, about 40 Euros for two, including wine or beer. Their mixed grills were really nice as were their Greek Salads.
Fira is not to be missed, lovely quaint shops and beautiful restuarants and bars overlooking the caldera. Oia and Imerovigli are both very beautiful and worth a visit. The sunsets were amazing, and we experienced them at Oia, Imervigli and Fira, but not too be missed on one of the rooftop restuarants in Fira or Oia, expensive but worth it.
We enjoyed a traditional tour and also the sunset cruise, although the food included on the sunset cruise was a very basic buffet and not very nice.
I hope to go back next year as it is a beautiful island with beautiful people. If you go and require a realiable and very nice transfer taxi or tour I highly recommend Nikos at http://www.onlava.com/onlava/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=114&lang=en
really nice guy and very reliable and reasonable prices.

“Great little place”

My wife and myself travelled to Perissa on the 28th September, after a very easy transfer from Manchester it was a half hour coach transfer to the apartments,we were greeted by Ella one of the owners and taken straight to our room .
It was an average sized room for Greece and very clean and tidy, the bathroom was the usual Greek wet room what we are used to.One point to note if you are staying B&B there are no kettles or any cups glasses or utensils not good if you want an early cuppa ,but we asked Ella the following day and a kettle was provided.
Perissa itself is a nice safe haven even at night lots of tavernas to coose from and reasonable pricing,We found the Volcano on the beachfront excellent and also Cyclades on the main road both excellent for service and choice ,in fact at the Cyclades we met a couple and had lots of free drinks from the waiters as we were talking superb.
Views stunning from the top of the mountain and a trip to Thira and Oie a must.
back to the Philoxenia ,Eugene and Ella cant do enough for you they were really friendly and looked after all our needs during our stay, breakfast was the usual toast, orange and coffee or tea ok I guess .
There is a small bar and they do salads or toasties for snacks all reasonable prices, some of the rooms have little balconies but dont get too much sun our room 13 was at the back of the hotel overlooking other apartments ,yes a bit of noise from dogs barking but you are in Greece we did not find it a problem.
All in all a nice week at the end of there season closing comments are ,owners Eugene and Ella fantastic well done could not do enough for us ,location very good ,weather fantastic, super break thanks

“Great location, pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

We've just returned from a week at the Philoxenia. We had a fairly large family room on the ground floor, our only complaint was the bathroom, as it was a kind of small wet room, where you had to stand next to the toilet and shower which meant everything got wet and the floor was soaked for the next few hours which meant splashing around whilst you continued getting ready in the bathroom. The rooms are located in a nice courtyard area, where you could sit outside your room, but there was a lot of noise from dogs barking in the surrounding area which goes on constantly

Perissa beach is great but the amount of hawkers offering everything from Thai massage to DVD's was infuriating, about 20 per hour. We had a rather cloudy start to our week but it got very hot towards the end of the week. Food was average, all of the restaurants seem to be offering the same kind of menu and everything comes with chips and rice! Our best meal was the 'Villager's Ommlette' in one of the seafront tavernas next to the rock.

We did the walk up the mountain to ancient Thira which was very hard work but worth it, the ancient city ruins were amazing. We also did a 2 euro local bus ride to Fira, which was very pretty but very touristy and busy.

All in all Santorini is very pretty, Perissa is great location and the hotel was pleasant enough.
