My parents and I stayed for a week in Palmento Grove over the Christmas holidays and had a wonderful time. Eugene and Mel, the father/daughter team that run the resort are warm and inviting. We felt more like family when we left than guests. The resort is simple, a five-star luxury resort it is not, but if you want a quiet, simple, clean room and excellent food, Palmento Grove is the place. Mel's grilled fish was the best fish I had the two weeks that we were in Belize, including the luxury restaurants in San Pedro. The resort is not on the beach but it is an easy two minute walk and being a little off the beach allowed for far more quiet and privacy. This is also a great place to get a taste for Garifuna culture. The resort is close to the drum center and Mel and Eugene were full of information about events in the area. Again, this isnt a place you go to be waited on hand and foot with spa treatments and poolside service, but if you just want a relaxed, friendly environment at a great value, Palmento Grove is great.
