We only stayed at the farm for one night, but fell in love with the place.
We rented the larger family accomodation (which is the center of the house) which features a brand new kitchen and a recently renovated bathroom.
The attention to detail is fantastic down to a detailed history of the property and location.
There is everything you could want, especially if you have children, with a dam, an orchard, cows, goats, chickens, lots of wine in the mini-bar, lots of movies and a huge TV.
If its raining, stay in, if its sunny head out... either way its all good. We didn't try the menu as we brought our own food and used the very well equipped kitchen, but looking at the menu I was very tempted to try out the local cooking!

And of course I could not write a review without mentioning the local cat Pusspuss, what a character! We fell in love with Pusspuss on first sight and enjoyed his regular visits.

It’s hard to say much that hasn’t already been said by other recent visitors to Hamlet Downs. My wife and I arrived there with some friends after a stay at a dodgy place at Lake St Clair and the difference in attitude and service at the two places couldn’t have been more extreme. About one minute after walking in the door at Hamlet Downs, we all felt so relaxed and comfortable – we couldn’t believe our good fortune. Everything about this establishment says “welcome” and Peter and Sue made sure that everything worked well for us, including great evening meals. It’s a terrific place to use as a base for exploring the central part of Tasmania but it would also be great just as a place to go and veg out for a while. Hopefully, we’ll be back there again some time.

Besides being a real gem of a place, Hamlet Downs is conveniently located near to the Mt Field National Park. Our hosts, Peter and Sue, were very kind and friendly. The family suite, which included a small kitchen, fridge, dining table and lounging area with a TV and fireplace, was thoughtfully kitted out with everything you'd need to make you and your travelling companion(s) comfortable while on vacation. Above all, the countryside was lovely and peaceful in every way, accentuated by the flowers that bloomed beautifully. If you have a soft spot for animals, you would enjoy meeting Puss Puss the cat, the goat and chickens, all of whom are curious and amiable and would come right up to you. Happy animals are naturally trusting of people, aren't they? I went out to the pond in the morning and spotted a few brown creatures swimming and apparently foraging for food amongst the grasses growing in the water beside the bank. I think and hope they were a group of platypus! During my 10-day sojourn in Tasmania, Hamlet Downs was the best place that I had stayed in. I would strongly recommend that you find yourself there someday soon!
 

I have varying experiences with travel accommodation and on this This trip I decided to give B&b a bash and so far we have seen the good the ugly, the ordinary and now.... The standard all others need to meet.

My husband asked as we journeyed along the dirt road " so whats the place like?" gosh I really didn't have any idea but going from the web site it looked ok! Good things can be found on the net.... Gossip on face book, eBay bargins, your can even find my celebrant business..... However I was optimistically cautions and we rounded the front fence post, a cavalcade of color lept out at us from the garden followed by purrrrfect welcome from the cat. There was a little neat notice inviting us to call a small bell to summon our host. These little discreet notes were to be found through our King Possum Room which helped. Not only does the project a professionalism we expect when we hand over our hard earned cash, but the answered the questions I would have like to know about.

We were invited to complete our meal orders and to take a stroll around the garden. A historical little porperty outside of Fentonbury, Sue and Peter have spent the last six years putting their unique stamp on the place, massive cottage gardens, veggie patch, walking track to the ponds and a few tradition farm yard creatures to have a chat with. Well cared for but not manicured, which gives that comfortable at home feel

To my delight, when it came to meal time I didn't have to ask what I could have as a celiac, rather was told that anything could be adapted for me.... This is a rare and delightful experience. I had the roast lamb with garden veg and my husband had a steak to big to jump over, buried in succulent mushrooms ...also to his delight.

This we followed up with a shared plate of gluten free pan cakes! Scrumdelicioso!!!

I can't move now, but when I do there's is a king sized bed, with crisp sheets and a well appointed bathroom.... But for now I think I will sit a little longer, enjoy the birdsong, take in the calming view and the sound of the wind in the trees applauding our decision to choose Hamelt Downs ( no ambient light or traffice to be seen or heard. At all.... And I did check that out!) and just relax!
