The day after landing in Cancun, we were met by our friends who live in Oxcutzcab and they took us to Holbox. What a fantastic island! Sand streets, no cars, beautiful beaches.
My friend's cousin lives on Holbox and they made the hotel arrangements for us. Couldn't have been happier with the Iguana. The rooms are simple and kept very clean. They fit the island setting perfectly. NoTV, no AC, no phone, no clock, no worries. The perfect place to relax.
The property is well maintained and located right on the beach. It is a short walk to the main square in town or a 50 peso "taxi" ride in a golf cart. There are a few fancier hotels but this fit our travel style perfectly.
Unfortunately, the "norteno" hit the island the third day we were there and it rained like crazy and the temp dropped into the 50's. We left the island and headed south for the rest of the two weeks we spent on this trip. We are going back to the Yucatan in September and are going to try and go back to Holbox next January. We would certainly stay here again.

I was wanting to get away from everything, specially from my daily routine in the states that literally gets me insanely stressful in every circumstance and I decided to go at Isla Holbox. I stayed at Hotel Casa Iguana for one week. Everything was excellent, the staff extremely nice and beyond helpful and the best part they speak fluent English...I actually became really good friends with Cherise and Aron(I´m pretty sure that´s not how you spell his name,) but overall, i felt in paradise....Waking up every morning and seeing the beach right in front of you is an extraordinary feeling and I´m a photographer and I indeed got amazing shots.....Nevertheless, me and my friends were all satisfied with our stay at Hotel >Casa Iguana :=)

Well I stayed in Casa Iguana while traveling with my brother last summer and it was awful! We got there and got this really expensive "deluxe" room (about 1,200 pesos, opposed to a regular one that costs 500 but there were none of those available) and it was kinda clean, size wasn't that bad but... NO A/C!!! How can they charge that for a room with no a/c when the cheaper rooms have it?? Besides that, you definitely can't open the windows since there are sooooo many mosquitoes in the island. Try getting back to your hotel when you are feeling hot and tired and find nothing but a hot room!!

Besides that after about 6 pm there's no one in reception to help you out with anything you need, I wanted to ask something and I had to make a phone call, leave a message and no one ever called back.

If you are going to Holbox, try somewhere else. Such a gorgeous place deserves a better hotel not to ruin your over all experience...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Iguana for 3 nights...should have stayed longer. It was the nicest part of our journey! The owners and family are lovely as well as the employees..... who you can tell they immensely appreciate. Would definitely return and recommend.
