Lumino is the Cuban grandmother you never realised you had!
The casa itself is good, a bedroom, with ensuite shower & toilet, separated from the rest of the house by a covered patio area, which has a dining table and 2 rocking chairs.
It is located about 2-3 mins walk from the main road, where the restaurants/bars are and where the buses arrive from Havana.
Lumino (along with 100 touts!) will meet you at the bus station, if you call at least 24 hours in advance. Look for the smallest, cutest lady in the line-up!
It's difficult to compare the casa with others in Vinales, as we only stayed at this property. However, I can say that you'll be hard pressed to find another host who is so welcoming & caring.
She cooked us the best food in Cuba, by far, and we stayed in 4 different places over 2 weeks. Ask for the pork if you're a meat-lover, or "chicken of the sea" (lobster!), if you're a seafood fan.
Lumino gave me some medicine when I was sick. She also let me borrow a hat, when we went horse-riding for 4 hours in the valley (recommended, as only CUC5 per person per hour).
Lumino's son, Heriberto, is also on hand if, like us, your Spanish is very limited. Having said that, it's amazing how you can get by on hand gestures and a Spanish/English dictionary!
All in all, I can't recommend this place highly enough.
p.s. book it as far in advance as you can, as they had to turn down 3 other people, who tried to book for the same dates as us.
