“Good place to stay for first trip to Basque area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

We chose to stay here since we wanted to visit both San Sebastian and Biarritz. This hotel was perfect for that and about 25 minutes from each town. We really had no complaints. The room was clean and very simple. It had a Scandinavian feel to it. The grounds were lovely and the town itself was charming. We did not explore the town at great lengths since we spent most of our time between San Sebastian and Biarritz but did walk up to the Parador which was beautiful. The beaches in San Sebastian and Biarritz are wonderful and it is totally possible to home base here and then drive each day. The tolls are a little high going back and forth but the back roads can be taken as well. We did not mind the drive.

“Smart modern hotel in a good location with friendly and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

We stayed for a week in October. The hotel is smart and contemporary. Rooms are clean and crsip and breakfast very good. A great location to walk across to the old town and easy access to walk into Hondarrabia. The staff very helpful and recommended several good local restaurants. They also helped us with public transport making our trips to San Sebastian, Biarritz and St Jean de Luz which are a must to visit. We had days out and drove to Rioja for a Bodega visit and to a beautiful village called St Jean de Pied Port, both a couple of hours away but worth the effort.

“An unusual hotel”

We where with our 2 children and where touring n Spain and France. The hotel was in the Brittany Ferries suggestions for luxery hotels in the area. The hotel is situated in a residential area and doest look to promising on your arrival. Its has over the last couple of years been restyled in a mimamlist style. The room we where allocated for the four of us was far to small and we where moved to a large and much better room although we had to pay extra which seemed unfair.
The town is close by and can be walked in under 5 mins.
We ate in the hotel the first night. the menue looked impressive but the food wasnt. Given the menue i would have expected a busy brigade in the kitchen, there clearly wasnt. I got the impression everything was pre cooked but i could be wrong. There was also little atmosphere in the restaurant which was situated in the basement.
Breakfast was fine if not limited. ( a small buffett).
The staff where helpful and directed us to eat in the Almara which was a fantastic restaurant.
Overall an ok hotel in a modern style wih limited character. it did however have a very good pool and poolside area.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2008

We arrived late afternoon in glorious sunshine for a 2-night stay. Once we had mastered the one-way system into the hotel we found a convenient parking space at the front of the hotel. The staff were courteous and friendly, with rather good English (given our more limited Spanish!). Our room was on the second floor, with a window that overlooked a neighbouring room! (we needed to keep the blinds closed). The room was rather bland but clean and spacious with the added advantage of a separate dressing room. We dined in the (rather expensive) restaurant the first evening but the food was excellent. The only disadvantage was that the menu was written entirely in Spanish and the waiting staff were unable to translate due to their limited English - made for an interesting meal! Our second night was disappointing due to the noise created by a Spanish family with children next to us. Laminate flooring and thin walls do not make for a good nights sleep when children are noisy and you can even hear them taking a bath! The overall location of the hotel was excellent though. We were within easy walking distance of the beautiful old town which was full of character and charm, which happened to coincide with a festival atmosphere whilst we awaited the marching bands gathering for the Basque celebrations. Plenty of restaurants available, but beware that the Spanish eat later than us Brits - dont expect to eat before 8:30pm. I am not sure whether I would recommend this hotel due to the lack of sound-proofing, but certainly a brilliant location where you can park the car and walk into the lovely old town.
