This is a lovely property set amongst cork and chestnut trees, set a way back from the quiet winding mountain road. The rooms are very spacious and elegantly finished, as is the comfortable lounge area. There is a very pleasant and quiet large pool set away from the house down a short path.

Our host was Alec, the son of the owner Charles (who we only met just be before we were leaving as he was on holiday in England). Alec is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and we very much enjoyed his company. He was able to give us lots of advice on local attractions and restaurants including local hiking trails. He is a rather good chef too and we ate at the property on three occasions. Notable dishes included the grilled "presa", a fantastic cut of meat from the local acorn fed pork. We also had pork stuffed with pine nuts and dates which was delicious. He also makes some great ice-cream!

This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. I would heartily recommend it to anyone seeking a high quality, relaxing break.

The only little improvement I would like to see are coffee and tea making facilities (preferably in the room). There is an honesty bar in the lounge which is well stocked with cold drinks but there is no facility for making tea or coffee here either. It would also be nice if there were a few snacks available - it's a long time before when the typical Spanish dinner starts at 9:30 - 10:00 pm!

In the local area I would recommend going to the caves in Aracena (La Gruta Maravillosa) - they are spectacular!

My husband and I stayed here for five nights this spring. We wanted a relaxing few days with hiking and good food. This place is run by a British expat and his Spanish wife, who started it up after a long banking career. The inn was built on a large estate they bought (they live in the original house) and it was built to an extremely high quality. Very comfortable, stunning views, little private terraces in front of each room, modern bathrooms, etc.
We spent five days taking hikes that started at or near the inn. We walked to and through a large number of pretty pueblos blancos, had some incredible meals in small restaurants in smaller towns, visited Spain's oldest mosque, walked through gorgeous countryside, to waterfalls, up and down hills. It's a beautiful area, much like the Extremadura region that it adjoins. In spring it's a riot of wildflowers, green pastures, babbling brooks, perfect temperatures.
Breakfasts are large and home made -- the honey, the jams, the croissants, it all comes out of their kitchen. We ate our dinners at the inn, since we usually arrived back late after our hikes. Dinners were good, cooked by their son, who is a budding chef. He is young and earnest, and we enjoyed talking with both him and the father very much. There are copies of hiking books available there, and the owners will also point you in the direction of a lot of good day hike options. Two started right from the doorstep of the inn. The small town of Alajar has a few cafes and is a beautiful 2 km walk downhill.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed at Finca la Fronda for 7 nights and could not have asked for a more comfortable, hospitable place for our holiday. the room was spacious and well equipped and the communal space was comfortable and had plenty of places to sit. Alec was our host for the week as Charles was on holiday (well earned!) and he was helpful, funny and a perfect host. Even running us back from the restaurant he recommended in Sierra de la Linares.

We had the hotel to ourselves for a few days and it just became a comfy home from home. The walking in this area is really good with a few good walks straight from the hotel. I could not recommned this hotel enough.

Alec was also a great chef producing good home cooked food for a few of our nights stay.

We stayed at Finca La Fronda (very close to Alajar) twice on our way between Lisbon and Malaga/Granada. Both times everything was excellent. The owner and host, Charles, is a real gentleman and seemed to take real pleasure in hosting us. He and his wife obviously took great care in planning and executing the hotel. Our bedroom was enormous, tasteful and very well appointed. The shared "living area" is lovely and has magnificent 180 plus degree views of the beautiful surroundings (the hotel has a very privileged location) and beyond. Ask to feed the donkeys! Good price/value relationship.
