We stayed in Martina Franca in Mar 2009 for 5 nights and wanted to do a cooking class. Masseria Pozzo Tre Pille was gorgeous and the hosts, Elena, and Vincenzo were wonderful. They are adding many amenities to the property, but what they have so far was very nice and quaint. We were with 4 people from Canada, and there were 4 of us--myself, my husband, my 18 yr old son and my 20 yr old daughter. We started with breakfast on the terrace and went on to make homemade pizza, homemade pasta, appetizers, a kind of pork roast, and dessert. Velia is extremely friendly--excellent English--and very down to earth and funny. We enjoyed her and GianLuca (and Paola and Dominico) immensely! In between the cooking, we had a champagne tasting, a wine tasting and an olive oil tasting! And our pizza crusts were baked in the outdoor wood burning oven Dominico so carefully stoked to the right temperature. We were probably there about 8 hours all together and it was great. Elena gave us her "cookbook" and a framed certificate before we headed for home. It was the highlight of the trip for my kids (and we started in Sorrento for a few days, and ended in Rome for a couple of days!). Velia and GianLuca also own a small bar in Orvieto called the Champagneria and we stopped there before we left Martina Franca to say goodbye. Its very cozy and charming and Velia gave us all kind of goodies to take on the train with us (we were heading to Rome). Needless to say, there were hugs all around when we left. We hope to see them again someday!
