After a very long drive, we arrived at the Hotel King Minos overlooking the harbor at Tolo. The town is lovely; the hotel is quite beautiful; the pool is spectacular, and the view is breathtaking. I received an upgrade to room 502, a penthouse room with a shaded terrace overlooking the harbor and pool. The room was spacious, beautifully appointed with very fine modern furnishings in both the room and on the terrace. The room was decorated with dark wood furnishings, stylishly framed black and white photos, flat screen TV, and soft ivory and caramel fabrics. There was an ironing board, good closet space, refrigerator, and appropriate luggage space. Lighting in the room was very good. Elevator is small, so luggage delivery took forever.
The bath is dramatic with a bright red sink and gunmetal colored tiles. Lighting was dramatic in the bath, but not practical...you couldn't see well in the shower. No soap in the bathroom...but a whirlpool tub and hand-held shower wand with nothing to hold it in place above you.
The view of the harbor was breathtaking and terrace was very comfortable. All this being said, we had several people who traveled with us who were not happy with their rooms. All faced the back. One in particular had a small room that smelled of smoke and opened onto the parking lot. When he opened his sliding doors to air the room, feral cats rushed into the room. The room was dark and unpleasant - the smell of smoke is not a happy thing for a non-smoker. This can be a problem in Greece where smoking in rooms, restaurants, and bars is not regulated. Insist on a room facing the pool and harbor.
The dining room was nicely decorated in tones of peach and ivory. Very fine dinner buffet with lots of choices...breakfast was more limited, but OK. Scrambled eggs, Vienna sausages, cheese puffs, cereal, cookies, cake, bread, fruit, and yogurt.
The hotel is handy to town and has a nice poolside bar with a very savvy bartender. Public rooms are expansive and nicely decorated.
