“We endorse all the previous reviews”

We spent two nights here in order to relax before starting on a week's cycling trip from Forcalquier. The approach and the setting are beautiful; the building and the grounds are a delight; the proprietors and the staff are charming; the rooms delightfully French; the breakfast exquisitely presented. All at a remarkably reasonable price.

In short, a lovely place. But you do need a car.

(PS The cycling tour around the Luberon valley was wonderful as well)

“No Recommendation Needed”

This hotel doesn't really need our recommendation as there are up-to-date signs from lots of the official hotel reviewer posted at the door.

What we liked was the peaceful atmosphere and the sweet natural scent in the air all around. It might concern some people that the hotel has no restaurant. This I think adds to the peace. The kitchenettes attached to some rooms are very well equipped and all the small villages round about have a restaurant (though check for opening times- all seem to close one evening a week).

A bit too far out of Forcalquier for walking but the hotel has bicycles for hire and the roads are not busy. A sleepy quiet place with a special aura.

“Peaceful and exquisite base for touring or retreating”

Charembeau is a delight to the senses! The Bergers have created a place of beauty which we enjoyed whether in our hotel room with its views from our rooftop deck, in the garden for breakfast or at the poolside.
Excellent and helpful service, especially for cyclists. We enjoyed two days on bikes in the surrounding countryside with Andre's maps to take us onto smaller roads, away from traffic, and to sights such as the olive museum.
Our room was tastefully decorated, very clean and modern bathroom, and we enjoyed a small kitchen for preparing some meals. However, make sure you have a Charembeau breakfast or, in the evening, the Assiette du Pays - both delicious!
Walk to nearby Forcalquier which is not on the tourist track but is enjoyable for its shops and artisans, restaurants and cafes, and well-known Monday market. Also, walk up to the Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Provence on "the citadel" hill.

“Peace and quiet in the countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

We just enjoyed a vacation in Provence, making four stops. While all were very nice the three nights we stayed Charembeau was, for us, the most tranquil and peaceful.

Charembeau is a country hotel, with considerably more rooms (20 to 25) than the B&Bs we enjoyed elsewhere. But if you want to enjoy the french countryside this is the ideal spot. The grounds are wonderful, with plenty of shaded areas as well as a very nice pool. Our room was very clean, with nice decor and a comfortable bed, although not particulary large. That may be due to having only a 'standard' room. The higher categories likely are somewhat larger. However what we may have sacrificed in size we certainly gained with the wonderful veranda with a fabulous view over the countryside.

The breakfasts were great everywhere we stayed, but Charembeau's was again just a little bit better. Served in the beautiful garden there was yoghurt, fresh orange juice, a really nice fruit cup, plenty of jam and butter, excellent coffee and a great basket of fresh bread, croissants etc.. What was also nice was the opportunity to add, at a marginal extra cost, an egg (1 euro), jambon de pays or cheese (2 euros each). Elsewhere the option did not even exist.

The hotel is approx. 3 km from Forcalquier, a quaint Provence town with a number of restaurants and an extensive market on Monday. The picturesque drive along a one-lane country road is extremely scenic.

A nice added touch was the beautiful arrangement of flowers greeting us in our room after returning the first day.

The attached photos show you what a wonderful location Charembeau enjoys, with tranquil grounds, a nice pool, a superb breakfast, and a real country feel about it. We very much enjoyed our stay, and for those who want to get out of the city, and enjoy some peace and quiet, we highly recommend a stay here.

“Enchanting and Amazing!”

What a find! This place has everything - beautiful room (huge, fresh flowers, wonderful amenities), beautiful grounds (fantastic two-level pool, artwork, walnut trees!), and sweet, accommodating, family staff. We loved our two night stay and wished it had been more. There is great bicycling in the area and a great market on Mondays. We will go back. The fragrance of their lavender-honey shampoo, lotion etc. is unique and marvelous! We will return!
