“A good hotel and pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

The Renaissance is a nice hotel, one of the better ones when visiting Atyrau. Staff are pleasant and attentive. Breakfasts are good with plenty of variety. One tip, when getting your key card don't place it near your mobile phone, as this erases the access code, as I found out after the 3rd "lock-out." The Champions bar on the 3rd floor is a good place to watch various sporting events. Be careful when ordering food in Champions bar, the portions are large. Rooms are clean and relatively spacious, with the usual mini bar, flat screen tv and internet access. There is not very much to do in Atyrau, except go from bar to bar in the hotels. One good bar to visit in the summer is the Renco roof top bar, it has an open air pool which is nice and cool, it has very good views of the town of Atyrau. This is primarily an industrial oil town, although in the summer time there is a nice riverside walk, otherwise nothing much is happening.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel have views looking on to an industrial area

“The best in Atyrau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

I have stayed in this hotel many times and recommend this hotel for any kind of trip. The rooms are clean, service is world class, well kept bar and restaurant. You have free wi fi access in the lobby which is very big.

“Not the best.”

I suppose that you could say that for Atyrau standards this may be classed 5 Star, but I feel that Marriott have lowered their standards somewhat here. Not in anyone's imagination could this be deemed 5 star.
My experience revolves around a night I had with some friends in the 'Sports' bar. 2 of my friends had ordered their food at the same time but only one meal arrived, the guy without the food waited patiently for another 30 minutes before I asked the waitress what was going on, she said the food was just coming. So we waited another 15 minutes, still nothing, this time I asked for the manager, who quite rightly said she would go and find out what was the issue. She soon appeared staing the meal would be another 15 minutes.!!! When I asked why she stated that the meal was still being cooked, by the way, both guys had ordered the same meal. Anyway, I challenged her and asked if the order had been forgotten, her first response being no, of course not. However, after stating the facts to her, she then admitted that the order had been overlooked and apologized. 15 more minutes passed and as the guy bit into his beef burger, he Sqealed in disgust as the burger was cold and red raw in the centre.
Obviously, the manager was called over and asked to explain. The response was that they would make another meal, to which my friends walked out and have yet to return. I have to admit that I no longer eat in there.

Frankly, I would not return to the place after I experienced the inconvinience with checkout. I remember restaurant service, the girls with no knowledge of menu.
Positive:.... no thing

“Oasis in Atyrau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

Atyrau as a city leaves much to be desired, certainly not a vacation destination. I stayed here for business in February and it was great. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable and well climatized, neither too warm or too cold. The fitness centre was incredible with modern equipment, spacious and clean. The restaurant was quite good and the overall service, although some times a little slow was quite good.
Although, there isnt much to do in Atyrau, especially when it is nearing -40, there is a shopping centre nearby with a good Kazhk restaurant in there, worth visiting, as well as a grocery store for picking up an necessities. Overall, would recommend this hotel for visits to Atyrau.
