Have seen many middle-high class hotels and resorts in Zanzibar and I find the rooms at this hotel the biggest.
I was pleasantly surpriced with the massive double bath. The bathroom is spacious and well maintained.
The bed is just not as comfortable as could be.
The views are stunning and the breeze is nice, big open doors with a nice balcony / terrace.
The restaurant a clever closed off buffet area. Therefor there are no insect flying around the food and everything is fresh and well presented. Love that!
Besides all the good standards, they have a great beach bar and fantastic swimming pools. Yes not one but 3 overflowing in eachother and one almost olympic size.
Great to go with kids, with friends, romantic together or just on your own counting the waves rolling in.
Point of improvement is the product knowledge and service of the staff, but that's a general problem in this part of the world.

Not the newest hotel,but this has the benefit of having larger rooms and extensive grounds. The hotel is all inclusive and the food is very good. The 5 swimming pools and beach area are excellent.

We went there to relax after a week on safari in Tanzania. A couple of issues that cropped up when we checked into our rooms were resolved very swiftly and the management team couldn't have been more helpful. The views from the room balcony were to die for and the sunsets amazing. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and quickly got to know the children, teaching them a range of swahili words. Our rooms were "superior" ones- very spacious with a massive bath and shower. The variety of pools was great and you never felt overcrowded. Everywhere was clean and the grounds were meticulously kept. A must do is to visist the Baraka turtle sanctuary in the nearby village where you can swim with the turtles- the children loved it! Although there were a lot of Italians, there were plenty of other nationalities there too.

The name of this hotel is in true sense to the word - ROYAL i.e. the hospitality, the service, the staff along with the breath taking environment. The three infinity swimming pools makes it look like you are swimming towards the sea making it seem like it never ends... which honestly, i didn't want it to end!! The bathrooms and rooms in general were extremely spacious and the hygiene and cleanliness was profound. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to spend a few nights away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and take a relaxing weekend away. The Royal Zanzibar really went above and beyond my expectations.
