We had a horrific experience at this lodge. My husband and I are both South African and travel to the bush often, so have lots of experience of this type of travel. However, we can honestly say that we were never so disappointed and poorly treated in a lodge in SA ever! To start with, the lodge is filthy. When checking in, they offered us a seat, which both my husband and I declined because of how dirty it looked. The room had several spiders in it when we checked in and there were cigarette bud's lying around.
When we arrived for the game drive, there were no staff members to great us, just a pot of instant coffee and hot water (the outside temp was 35 degrees!) I then had to go searching for a staff member to get me a cold drink.
My husband is allergic to seafood, and we informed the lodge thereof (which their snarky manager confirmed upon check in) and on our first game drive, they serve us chicken nuggets, that turned out to be fish nuggets!

When the looming bush fire which was spreading through the reserve made it impossible for us to enjoy ourselves and sleep soundly, we decided to leave. The management were obstructive and rude when we informed them, saying: "go if you want to go, but you won't get a refund".
We left.
Please spare yourself the heartache and trouble, avoid this place! There are places like Mohondoro lodge, were you could not be treated with more professionalism and courtesy.
We learned this the hard way.

We stayed in Clifftop for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. The lodge as well as the place is situated in is unbelievable. Great rooms with a fantastic view. All the staff (but more specific the ranger and the battlers) were very kind and very helpful. They prepared us dinner in our room, dinner in the cellar. Very good food and a good selection of wines (needs improvement).

The safaris were really nice, watching by very close lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodile, zebras, antelopes (and other similar) and more. the scenery also in the bush is great.

Thanx for the warm welcome - we really did not want to return to Cape Town! We had a wonderful time at the lodge. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The game ranger (Stefanie) was excellent, very knowledgeable and accommodating. We saw the big five within the first three game drives, which in itself is a great feat! The food was also wonderful!



All in all we had a great time and I will surely recommend it to friends and family. Thank goodness I stayed healthy this time round.........!!

Clifftop is without doubt a beautiful, peaceful and luxurious lodge at what by the standards of many such establishments in South Aftrica is reasonably priced. Ryan, the chef not only offers entertainment with his menu introduction but also produces first class fare. Ranger Stephanie had boundless knowledge of the country's game albeit at times we felt we had to encourage her tell all she knew of the animals of Welvegonden. Game here was good, we saw four of the big five and had we been on the game drive before we arrived we would have seen all five. It must be said that whilst the park has an excellent mix of animals the numbers were to our eye on the low side. It was not unusual to journey for long periods and see few in number of any species. Maybe the one criticism would be to ask Where do the management go? You are greeted in a very Royal fashion on arrival at the lodge and on return from each and every game drive. At all other times they are conspicuous by their absence. Overall a lodge that should please most folk intent on enjoying fine food, the big five and more in luxurious surroundings.
