We arrived at N-Resort after a week at Sans Souci and our first impression was "what have we let ourselves in for". The reception area was very small and basic. Our room was a reasonable size and the bed was very comfortable, unfortunately the bathroom was very small and the shower was in the bath, but there was always plenty of hot water. The rooms are all built of varnished wood so it is like being in a log cabin and they do feel a bit dated. That said the aircon was very effective and they have added electronic safes and hairdryers. Also the fridge and coffee machine were all new and worked fine.
We had suggested N-Resort to some friends from the USA and they arrived the same day. When we met up at the grill bar we all agreed that it looked like we had made a bad choice. Our impression did not change after the evening meal that was buffet style and lacked variety and was very poor added to this the white wine was not chilled.
On to the second day and things started to change. Breakfast was very good and the service and friendliness of the staff was excellent. We then went to the beach which although shallow was clean sand and all day the beach staff would continually remove any seaweed that was washed up. Although the swimming area was predominantly sandy there were some rocks and also sea urchins so beach shoes are advisable. We also took the snorkelling trip from the beach which is recommended.
Throughout our stay we had lunch in the Oceanside Resturaunt where both the variety and standard of food was very good. They do not serve fries in this resturaunt but the staff would always be willing to go to the grill bar to get us some. In the evening we had dinner in either the Italian Resturaunt or the Oceanside Resturaunt and again the choice of dishes and quality of the food could not be faulted. Also after speaking to the bar staff on the first night the wine was always chilled. All of the evening meals were a la carte and the service from the staff was first class.
The pool is a good size and we enjoyed volleyball every afternoon and for the last few days this was extended to a session in the mornings also. The waterslide is a big attraction and after the post volleyball Bob Marley Shots everyone enjoyed it. A lovely lady in her seventies had a go and then went back for more! There were plenty of activities on offer throughout the day and my wife enjoyed the afternoon water aerobics.
Nightly entertainment was provided, most of which we throughly enjoyed although the entertainment staff did sometimes have more than one thing taking place at the same time that caused a bit of a distraction. Most nights after the entertainment quite a few guests would make for the piano bar and although there was no bar there the staff from the main bar would continuosly come back to replenish the drinks.
By about the third day we found that our opinion of the resort was starting to change and we all agreed that it was starting to grow on us, so much so that by the end of the week we and many of the other guests were already making plans to meet up again next year. During our stay there was between 60 to 70 guests, many of them like us "refugees" from Braco and it seemed that we were nearly all of the same opinion about the resort.
One thing that is certain is that it is the fantastic staff that really make this place. They always have a smile and go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need, nothing is ever too much trouble. Freddy the manager is always around, but sometimes both he and Pam the bar manageress are overzealous in the supervision of the staff as they are professional, hard working and do not need the constant supervision.
To sum up this is not luxury accommodation, but if you do not mind basic rooms unpretentious cheerful and bright dinning areas and bars where you are likely to meet some like minded guests and be attended to by such wonderful staff then this could be place you are looking for. If you must have 5* luxury then this is not the place.
