“It just got better and better!”

We arrived at N-Resort after a week at Sans Souci and our first impression was "what have we let ourselves in for". The reception area was very small and basic. Our room was a reasonable size and the bed was very comfortable, unfortunately the bathroom was very small and the shower was in the bath, but there was always plenty of hot water. The rooms are all built of varnished wood so it is like being in a log cabin and they do feel a bit dated. That said the aircon was very effective and they have added electronic safes and hairdryers. Also the fridge and coffee machine were all new and worked fine.
We had suggested N-Resort to some friends from the USA and they arrived the same day. When we met up at the grill bar we all agreed that it looked like we had made a bad choice. Our impression did not change after the evening meal that was buffet style and lacked variety and was very poor added to this the white wine was not chilled.
On to the second day and things started to change. Breakfast was very good and the service and friendliness of the staff was excellent. We then went to the beach which although shallow was clean sand and all day the beach staff would continually remove any seaweed that was washed up. Although the swimming area was predominantly sandy there were some rocks and also sea urchins so beach shoes are advisable. We also took the snorkelling trip from the beach which is recommended.
Throughout our stay we had lunch in the Oceanside Resturaunt where both the variety and standard of food was very good. They do not serve fries in this resturaunt but the staff would always be willing to go to the grill bar to get us some. In the evening we had dinner in either the Italian Resturaunt or the Oceanside Resturaunt and again the choice of dishes and quality of the food could not be faulted. Also after speaking to the bar staff on the first night the wine was always chilled. All of the evening meals were a la carte and the service from the staff was first class.
The pool is a good size and we enjoyed volleyball every afternoon and for the last few days this was extended to a session in the mornings also. The waterslide is a big attraction and after the post volleyball Bob Marley Shots everyone enjoyed it. A lovely lady in her seventies had a go and then went back for more! There were plenty of activities on offer throughout the day and my wife enjoyed the afternoon water aerobics.
Nightly entertainment was provided, most of which we throughly enjoyed although the entertainment staff did sometimes have more than one thing taking place at the same time that caused a bit of a distraction. Most nights after the entertainment quite a few guests would make for the piano bar and although there was no bar there the staff from the main bar would continuosly come back to replenish the drinks.
By about the third day we found that our opinion of the resort was starting to change and we all agreed that it was starting to grow on us, so much so that by the end of the week we and many of the other guests were already making plans to meet up again next year. During our stay there was between 60 to 70 guests, many of them like us "refugees" from Braco and it seemed that we were nearly all of the same opinion about the resort.
One thing that is certain is that it is the fantastic staff that really make this place. They always have a smile and go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need, nothing is ever too much trouble. Freddy the manager is always around, but sometimes both he and Pam the bar manageress are overzealous in the supervision of the staff as they are professional, hard working and do not need the constant supervision.
To sum up this is not luxury accommodation, but if you do not mind basic rooms unpretentious cheerful and bright dinning areas and bars where you are likely to meet some like minded guests and be attended to by such wonderful staff then this could be place you are looking for. If you must have 5* luxury then this is not the place.

“Thank goodness for the staff”

We went back to N Resort for our second visit the week of December 16 thru the 23rd. Before we left, I went to the resort website and clicked to live chat. I asked how many people would be at the resort while we were there and was answered that 14 people would be there with more coming during our visit. When we got to the resort, another couple got off the bus with us. We checked in and went to lunch. There were 2 other couples. That was it. 4 people plus us and the couple that got off the bus with us. The other 2 couples left the next day. Another couple checked in unexpectedly for one night because the resort they had been at, was too full. So that left 3 couples. Then on Sunday both couples left and it was just us…for 3 days. I only go into this to make the point that the person on the live chat did not tell us the truth, even though the staff and general manager knew we would be there by ourselves for days. They admitted this.

That being said, we were treated very well. Special dinners, and a lot of attention from the staff. Venus and Christine were great. If not for them, the trip would not have been good at all. It rained almost the entire 3 days we were by ourselves and they took the time to teach and play Jamaican dominoes with us. We were very disappointed with Greg though. He was the other activities director. We had wanted to go to Margaritaville with the other 2 couples on Saturday so he set us up with a service. We were told if we went shopping (where the driver wanted to take us) we would not have to pay the $15 charge per couple for the trip. We agreed and the driver took us and 2 other couples to the shopping center. The prices were almost twice as expensive for anything that you could buy at the airport, but we still purchased items. Then we were taken to Margaritaville for 1 hour. When we got back to the hotel, we gave the driver a $5 tip. So did one of the other couples. The driver seemed very upset. When the last couple got off the bus, Greg told them that the agreement was that every couple would pay $15. They did because they felt confronted. This was not the understanding. Greg cannot be trusted, so if you go, don’t work with him for any outside the resort activities.

Unfortunately, when you are the only 2 people on the resort and there is nothing going on (no nightly entertainment when just the 2 of us were there), you start to notice how run down things are. There are 2 boats tied in front of the resort and neither of them work. One of them was tied there even back in May. It just seems that no money is being put into the resort at all. Even the sheets were rather old.

Let me say this though. My trip report in no way should cast a shadow on 99% of the staff and Freddie the manager. They are great. There is nothing they wouldn’t try to do, if they knew it would make your trip better. Any one of the staff and Freddie could go to a 4 star resort and be successful. I think they do the best job possible with the resources they are given but the owners need to put some money into this resort and bring it up to a reasonable standard based up what is paid for the rooms.

It is doubtful we would return to the resort unless we were with a group to ensure we were not the only couple at the resort.

Staff - a 5
Resort - a 2 1/2

Room Tip: Block 7 is the best building to stay in, 2nd floor.

“Not Really Sure?”

The resort it's self was great. It was very neat and clean. We want to commend the house keeping staff, Jeffery, Cristine, Albert & all the bartenders, Terran & all the waitress and Kedeasha, you don't find any finer!!! The staff were fantastic with the exception of a couple of them.
I'm guessing there was about 60 guests there during our stay. The food was kinda repetitious! The BEST food we found was at the grill, THE CHICKEN WRAPS.
There is not much of a beach and large amounts of seaweed washing in. They do rake every morning, but there is so much in the water it just comes right back and I realy didn't want to go in the water.
I feel anyone going should be warned, if you need anything out side of the resort, DO NOT ask the management or Greg! Ask the working staff, they don't LIE to you. You can hail a cab out side the gate for about $4.00 one way. You can get meds at the Pharmacy in town for about $10.00. Just be careful, it seems as though everyone in managment, wants their cut.
We went into town, we were told we could not go by ourselves, because it was not safe, there were about 3000 tourists in town due to 2 cruise ships in port. I do have to note this was 10:00 in the a.m. Not sure if I would go at night.
Another warning is, if you get into too much fun, you will be spoken to. We had a LARGE group of us that were having a blast at supper. 1 guy came over to our table CURSING at us for being to loud and HE wanted to listen to the piano music. So the manager told us, THE LARGE group had to quiet down for the 1 guy. This is the point. The manager told us this was not Hedo. I'm still confused, we were drinking, talking smart, just having fun, no one was or had been doing Anything in a sexual manner. All of us had the understanding this was a non sexual, PARTY resort,(that exactly what all of us were looking for) not a geriatric resort. Everything was fairly quieted down by 1:00 a.m. every night. We all know it's not Hedo!!!!! If we wanted Hedo, we would have gone to Hedo.
The manager needs to deside, if this is going to be a live place for nudist or a nursing home.
We would like to visit again, but we want to be able to party, (this is our ONCE a year we can really let our hair down) not tip toe around. Isn't that what a GREAT vacation is all about.

“Jamaica "Funky" in a good way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This was our 22nd visit to Jamaica. We are fans of Au Natural resorts, mostly staying at various Couples and the recently closed Grand Lido Braco many, many times.

N Resort is not glitzy. The resort is still in transition from a family resort. We would describe it as 1980's Jamaica "Funky. " Clean with mature landscape. Older facilty.

Food was very good and Jamaican. Staff was particularly friendly. Rooms were like piney oak cabins, ocean front porch with bed was nice, good A/C and decent bedding, dated baths were clean and functional.

Nice large pool setting with 2 spas and pool bar, but we are beach people and the beach was narrow from erosion. Lots of shade.

Perhaps because it was a family resort, they have wind break walls and glass separating the main restaurant, pool and bar from the beach, like a fortress. If these walls and windows were taken down, and the facilities opened up to the beach and ocean it would make a big difference.

Ages were mostly 30, 40 & 50's with a few younger and few older. International euro and American. Not wild, very laid back retro Jamaican "funky" chill spot that is all clothing optional.
We truly hope they continue to dress up the place and open up the beach.

Comparing to fancier brands, when we first arrived, we were not sure we wanted to stay, when our holiday was over, we did not want to leave.

Room Tip: Beach front room with bed was a good deal. Balcony has a day bed and chair.

“Hospitality and Friendliness at it BEST!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Our experience at N Resort over the Holidays was beyond our expectations. The staff was extremely accomodating and Freddie, the GM of this resort, takes time to be on the scene giving special attention to every guest to make sure they are having a great vacation experience. The weather was perfect for 7 out of the 8 days we were there and only cooled down when we had to leave....it helped cure the separation anxiety. The property is constanly being attended to and is as spotless as Disneyland! Improvements to the building's exterriors are in progress, but it is not taking away from the rustic charm. We had a beachfront room in Block 1 close to the everything and maybe too close if you turn-in early. The entire experience was wonderful and we will definitely return. We had booked at another Naturist resort in the Carribean for the holidays, but were very disapointed to find that they had gone totally "lifestyle" for the week between Christmas in New Years. It actually worked to our advantage, as we discovered a place that had everything we were looking for and even cost less! We WILL return, and it is very comforting to know that there is a place to replace Braco's great experience and you don't have to go on Mr. Toad's wild ride from Sangster to get there; it's only about 30 minutes. HINT: Don't forget your transportation voucher, the taxi people at Sangster don't have a clue as to where "N" is. Fortunately, we were rescued by the nice people in the information booth at the airport. Can't say enough about Freddie and his staff, who made this New Years and Birthday a VERY special one to remember!

Room Tip: If you want to be close to the action and don't go to bed too early, Block 1 is very convenient...
