“Nice common areas, good locations vs. awful cottages”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We had booked one week in Yellowstone. 6 nights in a very old and poor cottage was too much to handle, even my body didn't like it as I got a stomach flu and a flu. My cottage, C3 or C8, don't rememer it correctly, had an awful smell inside. Even repair men came to check it but all they could say was that well, these cottages are out of use for 6 months a year, so there definitely are animals living under the cottage etc. This cottage was dead cold during the nights (in July) and I slept with day clothes on, two blankets and the heater on but I still got a little sick. I wouldn't recommend these old cottages to anyone. But, there were some more modern cottages too, which were OK. Also the common areas or the main building was nice. Location was good.

Room Tip: Just make sure you don't take the cheapest cottages.

Dear Tupuna M,

Thank you for your recent comments advising us of your visit to the Lake Lodge Cabins last summer. Valuable comments from visitors assist us in monitoring the levels of service we provide here in Yellowstone.

I was disappointed to learn about your stay at Lake Lodge. Every year we receive thousands of comments, mostly favorable, about the cabins. The poorly functioning heater in your cabin was unfortunate. Please accept my apologies for any inconveniences this caused, and be assured I have shared your observations with our management staff for their review. We have been renovating a number of these older cabins at Lake Lodge and hope to begin the next stage of renovations in the near future.

Thank you again for your comments. I hope you will visit us again in Yellowstone. If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me via the information provided below.

Sincerely,

Mike Keller, C. H. A.

“Pioneer Cabin austere but adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed in a Pioneer Cabin at Lake Lodge in Yellowstone in September 2011. The cabin had a season of use by the time we stayed, yet it was clean and everything was in working order. This is one of the cheapest lodging units in Yellowstone but it was warm and comfortable for the small amount of time we spent there. When in Yellowstone most of our time is spent out in the Park, not in a cabin. You should not expect more than a clean bed, warm room and private bath facilities when staying in a Pioneer Cabin. We consider it one step above camping but is comfortable. It had more room in it than some of the more expensive lodgings we stayed in while in Yellowstone.

Room Tip: Reserve early, they are difficult to get.

“Nice and clean room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My family stayed at Western Cabin at Lake Lodge Cabins. Clean and new room, decent size, bigger than we expected. Walk to breakfast at the lodge every morning. Centrally located inside the Yellowstone National Park. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay for 4 nights. Kids love the park so much that they don't want to leave.

Room Tip: Book early, like a year early.

“Great location and comfortable”

Really enjoyed our stay in unit AO6, which is a duplex and with a view of thelake. The room was comfortable, clean and well appointed. A nice walk through meadows (beware of the roaming bison) to the lake edge. Sitting on the veranda of the lodge with a drink is magical. Really interesting architecture of the lodge. Would not recommend eating at the "cafeteria" for breakfast, it was terrible.

“Thieves stole expensive shoes!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Stayed in Cabin E6 for one night this past summer and accidentally left a pair of expensive men's shoes in the closet when we left in the morning. We didn't realize our mistake until we got home that night, and by the next day when we called the Park to inquire with Lost and Found, we were told that housekeeping did not find anything and there had already been another set of guests in the room since we'd checked out. We found it extremely hard to believe that housekeeping did not find the shoes, and even though we realize that it was our mistake and the hotel management isn't responsible for items left behind, we still filed a claim management, only to be told basically that we were SOL. Even if this theft hadn't occurred, I still wouldn't have rated this property very highly - the bed sank to the floor, the carpet and furniture was circa 1976, interior lighting was a joke, the bathroom shower was rigged up haphazardly to the water heater that stood squat in the middle of the room (we thought the water heater was going to blow up in the middle of the night - no idea what that terrible noise was). Sure it's inside the Park and probably the cheapest option if you want to stay inside, but just be forewarned of the basic basic basic non-amenities and don't ever leave anything behind by accident!

Room Tip: Bring your own food/drinks - the nearby cafeteria is a ripoff! $6 for a 2-ounce box of Cheerios?!?
