“Don't Stay Here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2012 NEW

We had a room with a lovely view of the geyser but that is the most positive thing I can say about our stay.
The rooms are noisy because the inn is old and rickety but I thik it would be possible to help the situation by insulating. putting thicker carpet down and just putting notices up asking guests to be quiet.
Staff are hired on a temporary basis from all over the US but are all amateurs (or so it seems) and service is poor. Not from lack of caring but because of lack of experience. Food was dreadful in the Inn itself - we ordered appetisers and entrees but the entrees came before the starters and all was stone cold. WE asked for it to be reheated but it came back at just the same temperature.
Xanterra, the operators, have a monopoly in the park so charge high prices for poor standards, knowing they have a captive audience.
I'm not sure but think the Snow Lodge might have had better rooms as it is newer.

Room Tip: All rooms are noisy but geyser views have what they say!

We stayed at the old faithful inn after hearing rave reviews about it. We were truly disappointed!!! The rooms in the new wings which were no better than motel rooms at best were at $250 per night. The legendary fireplace and clock was covered with plastic as it was being maintained for rhe upcoming summer season
The service at the dining rooms was really slow. Infact it took over an hour and half for the food to be served. The soup was cold, the kids fell asleep waiting. We had to complain to the manager who willingly gave us the meal free! The deli was terrible too. The heating in the room had to be serviced on the first day too. The only saving grace was the location. Got to see the old faithful erupt many times and thermal features nearby were fabulous.

“Good Location, Nice Architecture, Lousy Experience”

Pros: Nice building to look at and admire. Location. Friendly workers.
Cons: Room was horrible. Bad water pressure, uncomfortable bed, no amenities. Stuck us on the lower floor with no elevator access, hallways and lobby very dark. Parking inadequate, had to park in nearby lot and walk through the back way through construction. Food just ok, but prices are five star. Then they charged my bill for a meal the previous tenant charged. After complaining, they said they fixed it, but when I got home I saw they charged my credit card later for the amount again! As for meal, at my whole breakfast buffet before I got any water or coffee.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the west wing! It's like a dungeon down there, and no elevator to the lowest...

“Like Visiting Another World”

I highly recommend a stay at the Old Faithful Inn. The Inn is absolutely beautiful. And it's really cool to wake up, look out your window, and see the steam rising up in the distance from the geysers. Staying at the Inn is also nice because you can wake up early, before everyone arrives, and see Old Faithful go off without the crowds. My family stayed in one of the "new" rooms, with its own bathroom. The rooms are simply "serviceable." You don't stay at the Old Faithful Inn for the posh rooms! But the overall experience of staying at the Inn was well worth the cost and the booking the rooms months ahead of time. Be aware when you book that the Inn doesn't have rollaways or cots. If you have a fifth person staying in the room, bring an air mattress. Otherwise, someone will be sleeping on the floor.

“Absolutely blown away in Geyser Country!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2012

Our only disappointment about the Old Faithful Inn was we could only fit in one night’s stay instead of two. If you’re even partially considering lodging inside Yellowstone next year (summer of 2013) BOOK NOW. … I booked in early September for a trip the following June and consider myself fortunate I snagged one of the few-remaining two-bed rooms WITH a bathroom.

(If you’re OK with sharing a bathroom with guests on your floor -- as well as the non-guests stopping through -- more power to you. You’ll also have more flexibility when booking a stay and you’ll save some money. There’s a reason, however, why we don’t do every single thing today the way people did in 1904 when the Inn was first built. My wife & I had suspected that sharing bath & shower facilities would NOT have enhanced our visit, and thru casual observation during the trip we were proven correct. Children on road trips have delicate stomachs, and we were made aware of two separate instances the day we were at the Inn of young ones running into common bathrooms and barfing all over the place. Consider yourself warned. …)

This is not a Four Seasons -- it’s more magical and historically important than that. Appreciate the Old Faithful Inn for what it is: a one-of-a-kind, crown-jewel example of National Park Rustic architecture. Let the heritage and the atmosphere overwhelm you. Take a guided tour. Eat your meals in the dining room. Indulge at the ice cream shop and the excellent & massive gift shop. Enjoy a beverage on the upstairs deck with a view of the geyser. People-watch from the lobby, and at night stake out a table overlooking the lobby and play a long board game with the family.

Our 4-day visit of Yellowstone NP wouldn’t have been the same without staying at least one full day based at the OFI. We were absolutely blown away! And we'll savor it forever.

Room Tip: 1) Book well in advance. 2) Strongly consider whether you can handle sharing a bathroom in such a bu...
