This hotel is located right on Kalakaua Avenue, the heart of shopping in Waikiki. While others have complained that the lower floors are noisy (from street noise), we did not find this to be the case. We booked our flight and hotel from Orbitz and ended up on the 3rd floor of the hotel. We were given 2 adjacent rooms (there were 7 of us) facing the back of the hotel and all we saw was the AC system of the hotel for a view. This didn't bother us as we did not expect to be placed in rooms on the upper floors from an Orbitz deal. We were not going to spend a lot of time in our rooms other than for resting between sightseeing trips and sleeping anyway. From our location, the rooms were very quiet and we had no problem sleeping. We stayed from Sunday through the following week Monday (8 nights). We experienced a problem with one of our rooms on Wednesday, where we got an infestation of ants. We let the hotel know and they asked if we wanted our room sprayed (in order to remain next door to one another) or whether we wanted another room. We chose another room, were told the hotel was fully booked, and were given the only available room on the 2nd floor facing Kalakaua Avenue (where some posters indicated high noise levels). Our new room had a wooden sliding door to slide past the shutters as a noise muffler. Upon use of it, we did not hear street level noise and everyone from our family who switched into this room from their third floor room enjoyed a good night's sleep for the rest of our stay here.
As they say in real estate, everything is about location, location, location. This hotel is located right in the heart of the strip and we were in walking distance of everything....the beach, the zoo (about a mile away), restaurants galore, night life, the International Market, shopping, Every night we ventured out to try something different and enjoyed knowing everything was just "steps" away.
As for the rooms, they were what one would expect at a Holiday Inn. The beds were comfortable, the cleaning staff did an excellent job, there was a mini refrigerator, a coffee maker, free internet usage, and a safe in the room. The bath room was not big but was clean and satisfactory. One note: the ice machine was located on every OTHER floor so when we were on the third floor we had to go down to the second floor to get our ice. This was necessary because our refrigerator had no thermostat on it, so our drinks did not get as cold as we would have liked them to be. This was a minor inconvenience. As stated by other posters, in house parking was $30 a day which many considered steep. However, because we were aware of the parking fee from reading reviews from fellow posters on Trip Advisor, parking was built in as a fixed expense for our trip. The only negative I would say about this hotel, if any, is that the elevators were slow and the crowds got heavy at times. However, being on the 2nd and third floors, taking the stairs was a viable option for our group so this was not a big deal. As noted by other posters, there is no room service but that is not a big negative as most things you needed were steps away from the hotel (there were ABC stores located everywhere on Kalakaua Avenue). Another benefit here was we were able to print our boarding passes for our return trip for free in their lobby. When we checked out we were erroneously charged for 11 days of parking $330, but upon my catching the error it was quickly changed to $240. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and we would stay here again when we return for another visit to Hawaii. I would recommend fellow Trip Advisor followers to consider this as a place to stay when you are in Waikiki.
