I booked this hotel as a "top secret deal" It was advertised as a three star hotel. I would struggle to call this a two star hotel. After realizing that we were staying here, I checked the bed bug registrey and they are on it. The staff wasn't overly accomodating and the facility made me feel suspicious.
It appears as though they have begun updating this hotel. Compared to the pictures on this site, some changes have already been made. I only paid $115.00 total for two rooms on a Friday night, so I couldn't complain about the price.
For the most part the faciltiy was clean, but dated. Breakfast was akward and cold. There is half self service and half table service. The server seemed confused when she brought back the food. She just put it all on the table and walked away. Very little interaction with the guests. They had two waffle makers but the waffle batter was empty for the entire time we were there.
On our way to check out, the room attendant stopped me to ask what room I was staying in. I didn't tell her. When I asked her why, she wanted to know if I was checking out or just leaving for the day. When I told her we were checking out, she said "great" and walked away.
This hotel does allow pets, something I did not realize until we got to our room and heard barking dogs. This wasn't that big of a problem, as the owners soon returned and the dogs were quiet for the rest of the stay.
Overall, I would recommend other places to stay in Scranton. Maybe once the rennovations are complete this Clarion will make a comeback. Right now, I wouldn't suggest it.
