“11 day stay and all OK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

We wanted a downtown budget hotel and in spite of negative reviews found no other options. To our surprise we found friendly staff and a large well furnished room; carpeted, wall papered, comfortable bed, a desk with chair for computer, excellent wifi, round table with two chairs, tv, dresser, small clean bathroom, large bathroom vanity, large clothes rack with wooden hangers, easy to use safe box and everything worked. Bedding and towels are old but clean (a few stains and holes but not dirty). Halls, parking, breakfast room , can be cleaner, but it was clean enough for us. The area where the hotel seats is under construction, some buildings being demolished and others built. We found it safe and had a great time in Scranton. No problem going back if need be but wish there were more options downtown for budget travelers. Would recommend if friend definitely needed a budget hotel downtown.

“Scared Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

Went into Scranton for the night with friends and planned on staying here. When we arrived, the area the hotel was in looked like a cross between a ghost town and a war zone. Construction everywhere and not a soul to be seen. The hotel lobby smelled horrible and couple of rooms with window shades we looked into looked dirty, cramped and small. A few of the doors had serious dents in them. White standing in the parking lot we were circled a few times by a couple of people in a car that seemingly has suspect motives. That combined with the fact that almost every other hotel in Scranton was booked full or had very few rooms open and we were seemingly going to be the only guests staying there that night, we rethought our plan. Needless to say we canceled our reservation and went elsewhere. There was also no one inside when we arrived to help us out, however we did only spend about thirty seconds in the lobby.

We take all feedback seriously, and sincerely regret that we did not meet your expectations. We apologize for the inconvenience that the construction may have caused you during your trip to Scranton, but our area is in the middle of a face lift. We hope that the improvements will make our area more appealing in the future.

“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

I've stayed at this hotel a few times. Its really more of a motel actually. I live in NJ. I'll occasionally go out to Scranton for the day and then spend the night. I have a few friends that live there so we meet up at one of the bars at night and during the day I go to the mall or watch the steam trains. Its good for a change of scenery. Since I don't spend pratically any time in the hotel when I'm there this place is fine. Its basically a room and a bed and a bathroom, definitely nothing fancy, but for the price its good. As far as recommending it, it really depends. If you think you're going to spend a lot of time at the hotel then no I wouldn't recommend it. If you just need a place to sleep though it is fine, at least I've always felt so.

“Adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

We spent the night in this motel on our way up to visit family in Vermont. It was perfectly adequate for what we paid. You can't beat the location, right in downtown Scranton, and it was a short drive (probably a ten-minute walk) to a great coffee shop for breakfast.

The motel is old and rundown, but the area seems pretty safe. The shower was old and cracked. Make sure you wear shoes the whole time :) The beds were fairly comfortable and there was a TV in the room. Not much noise from the road or the other rooms.

“Filthy, but close to Steamtown.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2010

We went to Scranton with the primary goal of visiting Steamtown National Historic Site. We traveled with two adults and three children, ages 2, 6, and 9.

This hotel was the closest we could find to the site that had rooms available without prior reservations. The hotel also had free parking at the time of our stay.

Entering the lobby of the hotel was much like a locker room, very warm and smelling of unwashed sweaty people. Hotel staff seemed made up primarily of persons of Indian or Pakistani ethnicity.

The first room we were assigned had pubic hair on the toilet.

The second room we were assigned had dirty stained sheets.

The third room ended up passing a visual inspection and we stayed the night in that room. The beds slept comfortably and we had no issues with odd odors in the room or loud noises in the area.

At checkout in the morning we were able to see that the hotel cleaning staff was an elderly Indian or Pakistani woman in a fancy sari.
