It's been 5 years since my family experinced the most humiliating times of our lives. We lost everything in hurricane Katrina. We were stranded in Methodist Hospital in New Orleans East for 5 1/2 days after Katrina and flown out to San Antonio, Texas. Once there, as if we weren't through enough, we were treated by law enforcement as criminals. They even wanted to cavity check my then 13 year old daughter and my 14 year old neice.
My son was sick from being in the flood water, as I was already sick for days.
If we were to enter Lackland, we would not have been able to leave until a family member bailed us out. We were referred to as REFUGEES, and yes, we were treated as such.
While Law Enforcement was pre-occupied we slid the barricade open, and I told the kids no matter what, don't look back, and to run if we were called to come back.
While walking fast towards parked cabs, we met a most kind lady, who did not hesitate helping us after explaining where we were from and what was going to happen to us if we signed in at the Air Force Base.
This kind lady brought us to this hotel where we were WELCOMED with open arms. The management was most kind as were ALL the employees. Our room was excellent, service was excellent, and the housekeeping employees even brought me and the kids new and used clothing that I have saved to this day as memories of being accepted by total strangers and this hotel, which lessened the hatred and bitterness from of our experience with the local Law Enforcement.
Thank you all for being so kind towards me and my family and especially for such a pleasant stay at your location.
