“Great Host and Great House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2009

I've been meaning to write this review forever. If you're looking for a great house to stay at while in Providence pick this place. The price can't be beat and James is a fantastic host. Yes the location is not great (the neighbourhood is a bit rundown) but as my girlfriend lives in new york and I lived in Montreal at the time I really didn't see a problem, shops and restaurant were a short walk away.

James was in the middle of renovating/upgrading the house bit by bit (stripping paint here, patching and replacing dry wall there) when we visited and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still ongoing. But I have to say he kept the place immaculate. The rough floors are gorgeous and the large rooms and bathrooms are fantastic. We had a great king size bed with a beautiful duvet. What I like about the place is that while the furniture in the common areas may not be brand spanking new they do not clutter up the place and they forego the tacky kitsch B+B decor common in most places.

Did I mention James picked us up from the bus station? That he drove us to the restaurant on our last day? when we made it to the bus station back to head back to nyc on that last day I realized that I had left my day pack at the house . . . who came to the rescue? well you guessed it - James! I'm not exaggerating he was a wonderful host and the knowledge of wealth he had simply made our stay all the more enjoyable as we got to visit great restaurants and cafes etc. etc.

You should definitely visit and support an amazing labour of love, visit the Gothic Guesthouse!

“The Best”

I stayed for a week in the Gothic Guesthouse and my experience couldn't have been better. I had a very large room with high ceilings. I will take this anyday over the cramped and overpriced rooms @ the Viking Hotel on Bellevue in Newport, and it is a fraction of the price! James couldn't have been kinder or more gracious as a host. Having lived in Southern California I am used to comfort and quality and this met my needs perfectly. The location is very convienent to travel throught out RI. As much as I would like to keep this a secret so they will always have availability for me, I wanted to share my great experience.

“Pleasant stay in an awesome house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2009

We stayed at the Gothic Guesthouse on and off for 3 nights during our vacation in US and Canada. James is the most welcoming host we have ever met, serving us lovely coffee in the morning and providing us with all kind of help in a nice and relaxed way. If we ever go to Providence again, we will call James :)

“Thanksgiving at the Gothic Guesthouse”

We 're gonna join my sister's family and their friends for the Holidays. Emailed Mr Farrell with our plans, and right away he responded, offering a variety of options. (We were gonna be 4 the first night then 2 or 3 the nights to follow.) We got our favorite space "the loft" which has its own living room, bathroom and soon to be finished kitchen on the 3rd floor. We were given our own keys to let ourselves in late at night. The rooms are spartan but immaculately clean. The beds were so comfortable, I didn't even realize I was sharing the bed. (Mom decided to put the snorers in one room by themselves!) My sister lives walking distance in a house she designed so we were quite cormfortable even at night in a neighborhood that changing upwardly. If one likes SE Asian food you are in the perfect place, Apsara restaurant is just a couple of blocks away. We are looking forward to next stay!

Inexpensive and unique accommodation. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The place is super clean with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Location isn't in a great neighbourhood, but isn't far from downtown either.
