“Big Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

This hotel's website states that it's rustic, but that also means there is no service when something is really wrong. The cleanliness was minimal, and their TV did not work. The management did not even answer their phone and were offsite so we had to one to go to. We left one day early and forfeited our money, and when we finally did talk to the manager, he said that there would be no refunds as the money was already spent.

“Overpriced, Tiny, Crappy Cottages”

We came to Rustic River for Memorial Day weekend and were so disappointed we ended up walking down the road and renting another cabin. Yes, we packed up all our stuff and just left. The cabin was really tiny--barely room to move, no place to put a weekend's worth of clothes and food. They might be "near" the river, but there's no atmosphere to the place and we were much closer to the highway than to the river. Their website advertising is really deceptive. There's no land to speak of, unless you want to climb up the side of a rocky bluff without a trail. The layout is basically a driveway with a bunch of teeny cabins crammed in next to one another; there's not much room to turn a car around, certainly nowhere to hike. As many others have pointed out, there's no staff here. I feel sorry for other reviewers who think this place is beautiful; just walk down the road, and you'll find very spacious cabins with decks on the river that are much larger and much less expensive. This place is a joke. Be advised: Anyone who carries a little extra weight will have a very hard time maneuvering inside these cabins.

“Very Rustic”

First of all, the cabins are VERY rustic so at least the name does not fool you. However, rustic does not clear the fact that my buddy found hair in his bed when we first arrived. I did not have that problem in my bed, though, but still it makes for an uneasy time. Also, he found spiders in his room which was not great, either. Do not expect to talk to an employee/owner on site - they do not exist. If you want additrional towels, sheets, etc. you have to get them yourselves in a room between two of the cabins. In a way that is ok because you dont have to wait on anyone and the distance is not that much. Still, you expect to get some kind of service on the grounds. The bathrooms were clean, but they are very small. If you have an electrical appliance that has to be used in your bedroom (I have a CPAP), there is only one plug in each room - at the other end of the bed. Not very conducive for comfort.
The outside is very nice with a river just near the grounds. It is very relaxing in the early morning or late at night. We did not use the kitchen area much, but it was adequate. The hot tub is a communal hot tub so be aware of that for those who are used to their own hot tub. Needless to say, we did not spend much time in the cabin or on the grounds.

“Beware of deadly rock slide!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

We had reserved cabin # 7 via the internet for the size of the cabin and because it had a private hot tub. 2 days prior to our trip, we rec'd an email from Rustic River Cabins stating that we were to be relocated to cabin # 6 " due to a problem with the hot tub in cabin #7". When we arrived we found that the "problem with the hot tub" was that it was demolished by tons of rocks that had slid from the rock wall behind the cabins. Some of the rocks were the size of a small car!. Not only was the hot tub demolished but the deck as well. As a result , the hot tub was removed from our cabin #6 since obviously the shared deck was compromised. At no time did anyone, management or owner contact us to offer a reduction in price or to reassure us that the rock wall had been checked out and deemed safe. We not only did not have a hot tub, but did not feel it was safe to sleep in the bedrooms. We ended up sleeping on the most uncomfortable futon in the living room, the farthest away from another possible rock slide and certain death. Huge rocks leaned up against the back of the cabin which is where the bedrooms were.
We checked out at 8am. Upon our return home, I emailed my concerns and have not to this day received a response from anyone.

“Needs Work”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

We spent the Easter weekend here, and this is a very charming place, but it really needs some TLC. The decor is dated, and the cleanliness is not up to scratch. With some spit and polish these could be comfortable cabins, the basics are there. We bumped a small table out of the way and there were dust bunnies behind it, I dropped a towel on the floor, and wasn't comfortable using it - it had hair, dirt and dust on it. When we were cleaning up to leave we found a condom and a sticky bottle of used lubricant next to the bed. Cleanliness is really important to me, and I could have lived with the dated decor and mismatched crockery had it been clean.
