“Great overnight getaway”

My husband and I took an impromptu night here and had a wonderful time. It was a weeknight during the winter season, so we were able to get a little cabin with a private hot tub for a pretty reasonable price. Only one other cabin was occupied, so we had plenty of privacy.

It was really nice to soak in the hot tub and watch the stars and then curl up in front of the fireplace.

Other than some crumbs in the futon, the place was very clean. The bathroom had everything we needed, but the water heater should be turned down a bit. The shower was very hot.

A few things to keep in mind:

It is right off the highway, so there is some noise from traffic.

The cabins are packed kind of close together.

I don't know if they provide bedding for the futon.

The kitchen is pretty basic. Outside dishes and cutlery, there were a couple small pots and pans and cooking utensils. I didn't see a cutting board or baking sheets. They did provide utensils for the grill.

I'd love to be able to spend a few days there, very relaxing.

“We enjoyed this rustic, but cute little place!”

Very cute and RUSTIC - just like the name implies. They are clean and the cabin we stayed in even had it's own little hot tub. The community hot tub is right on the Big Thompson - almost hangs over it. Very serene and relaxing.

My son caught a 11" cut-throat (although I have no idea of the significance). He almost had three more bigger ones and caught a little "Brookie" he threw back. So there are definitely fish right there!

The two guys that maintain the place are very cool and we really enjoyed it. The price is reasonable for what you get and having a little kitchenette helped so that we didn't need to eat out all the time.

Room Tip: I would recommend cabin 8 - we stayed in 3, which is small but has it's own clean little hot tub...

“Great cabins, great prices!”

I've had many experiences renting cabins in the north Colorado front range, and these are the best cabins I've stayed in and at the lowest rates. Our cabins (5 and 3 for our final night) were very clean, appliances seemed new, towels and ammenities were well-stocked, and they offer free wifi and satellite tv (never been offered satellite tv in a cabin).

I was a bit leery having read some of the reviews here, despite knowing that typical travelers have unrealistic expectations for reasonably priced mountain cabin rentals, but it is quite clear that the new management has turned this place around. Keep that in mind when reading some of the older reviews.

“A lovely weekend”

A group of friends stayed here for a birthday celebration. Loved the fact that it was close to town, but not in it. The cabin was adequate- nothing amazing. The gentleman tending to the grounds was very nice and hospitable. One complaint was that the owner was having issues with which merchant account to put the monies in and ran my card twice... The incorrect one did drop off after a couple of days, but even while we were there the groundskeeper stated something about the owner missing a number on the card- incorrect since the cabin was already paid for. As far as the wrong merchant account; the owner called to communicate the problem which I very much appreciated. Overall a good stay and a great value.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Rustic River Cabins. Since May of 2011, there has been a change in ownership and management.

I am the one who made the mistake in charging the card twice and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I realized the mistake within an hour and did credit the card immediately but it takes a couple of days to process through the merchant account.

The new owner and managers are trying very hard to bring back this property from a neglected foreclosure to a reasonably priced, clean and fun place to vacation.

“Bates motel on the river, Creepy”

My wife and I booked # 7 sort of last minute and did not read the reviews, mistake. Paid $50 extra to check in at 3 pm, We pulled up to check-in and there was noboby around. The note said to call a number but our phones had no service. The cabin had it's key in the door, anyone could have had access. Inside was dirty and smelled of gas. The instructions on the table said to open bottom door and turn up the dial to warm the place up. They were talking about the oven! Sketchy. The hot tub looked very cloudy, not going in there. We packed up and left for home, total waste of $217 .

We are very sorry your weren't satisfied with your cabin. Since May of 2011,Rustic River Cabins has been under new ownership and management. We are spending10's of thousands bring this property back from neglect.

We do take exception to some of your comments.

Nowhere in the cabin are there instructions to use the oven to warm up the place.

We leave the key in the door for a reason. So that you can get in immediately. By the time any guest arrives, payment has already been made and instructions were sent to each guest

There are a staff of two who are on the premises who knows who should be on the property.

There was an early check in fee because you checked the box requesting an early check in when you made the online reservation. We didn't add the fee ourselves.

The insides of the cabins are absolutely not dirty. Our staff is very fussy about cleanliness and we make a huge effort to keep it that way. Now we do know that there are some stains on the carpets from previous guests and we are addressing that. However, I know they are clean because I personally have cleaned them with a professional machine numerous times.

We hope this guest will give us a chance to make it right.
