Having seen the other reviews I went in and asked to see two type room choices before deciding. Staff was new, and customer service was up to par on May 27.
We were warned about ants, but only after checking in. In the upper story, we did not have ants.
I recommend the upper story. Better overlook of the shoreline. Also, for those that don't know it ~ ~ ~ On a hot day seaweed will smell if you are on the beach walking.
Did not eat their dining room food, or go to the pool. So, no comment there.
I was visiting the town after having lived there in the past, so I knew where to eat: Go to the Good Harvest Café, or the Chart Room.
Use your AARP or AAA status to get a room discount. Prices were competitive with the other places in town.
I knew from having lived here this was the only hotel with best lighthouse view directly off the shore. No Hwy 101 traffic noises either. Wonderful breeze, and soothing ocean wave sounds from the room window.
I think the bed was a bit hard compared to what I like. But I have a tempur-pedic bed at home, and I think that is hard also. Lots of pillows.
The room was clean, except for two places: coffee spill on carpet, and dust coated exhaust fan in the bathroom. Otherwise a very nice and roomy with comfortable furnishings.
In fact, decided to stay a second day.
If you want hot water for the shower though, it seemed to be best in the morning, not in the evening. Another hotel I stayed in this trip was the same way.
