Repeat customer and frequent traveler. These owners have raised the bar for ANY choice hotel propert you have stayed at. The staff is awesome! Fire hot and plentiful! Beds 4 out of 5 on comfy. Rooms are in the middle if a renovation. The SMART property owners at all properties should take notice...they are ripping out nasty carpet and replacing with wood floors. Cleaner! Easier for staff to maintain! More pet friendly if they have an accident! Room feels healthier and I'm not afraid to walk on floors with bare feet (like I am on carpet). The pool and hot tub are very well maintained. This IS not right off the interstate and on the tail end of old Route 66 so it is VERY quiet. Super convenient for travelers restricted by airlines that need to resupply on personal car products (or snacks) as Walgreens, subway, McDonald's and the gas station are all within about 500ft. Great end of ABQ to be at as old town square is barely a block away, walking distance to museums which haste shuttle to bio park.
Recommended eats on Central Ave are Kelly's and The Cube...don't eat ordinary, eat extraordinary.
Oh yeah, they rent bikes too! Sweet for navigating this end of town!

Dear Karen B,

Thank you so much for such a kind review! I am delighted you enjoyed of comfortable beds! Yes, we are in the middle of renovating all our rooms with new flooring, furniture, paint, and more! The rooms we have completed have gotten rave reviews and we can’t wait till all our rooms are completed! I am pleased you were able get around our town. We had heard many of our guests asking about renting bikes to ride along the river, so we decided to offer that to our guests. For a small rental fee you can bike all over Albuquerque, to Old Town, the museum, Bio Park, Zoo, and many other sites.

Thank you for making Econo Lodge – Old Town your hotel of choice!

Best wishes,

The building is old but the owners are doing a first class room renovation project. They expect all the rooms to be 21st century by March, 2015. Very friendly, helpful folks there. I'd definitely stay at this Econo Lodge again.

Room tip: #119, big 1 room suite, King, best Econo I've ever seen, room totally renovated, 21st century, jetted tub, quite end, drive-up outdoor access.

Dear MapleLeafBob,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor! We appreciate hearing the feedback of our guests. You are correct that we hope to have all our rooms updated by spring 2015. Our hotel is only 15 years old, but we want to stay current and offer our guests the best of the best! That is why we are removing all the carpet in our rooms and replacing them with laminate flooring. We also have other plans, but you’ll have to come and see how they turn out! I’m so happy to hear we’ve found a loyal guest in you. We look forward to welcoming you back as our guest and hearing your feedback on our renovations!

Best Wishes,

We stayed here one night after driving 14 hours from Arkansas with small kids. I chose this place for the location, indoor pool, breakfast, and price. The staff was super friendly, the pool was cold but the hot tub was wonderful. Breakfast was fine. Overall it was a good experience, I would stay again.

Dear JKHughes09,

As a mom myself I give you so much credit for making it 14 hours with the kids! That’s a hard drive! I’m so glad to hear you and your family enjoyed your time as our guests. I’m sorry to hear our indoor pool was cold. It is normally heated so it can be enjoyed year round. I’m glad you and your family were able to enjoy our hot tub though! I’m glad you had a good experience as our guest and we hope to welcome you and your family back soon! Good luck on the rest of your drive!

I recently stayed at the Econ Lodge Old Town based on Trip Advisor reviews. My room was a basic room with the appreciated fridge, microwave and coffee maker. I found the room to be exceptionally clean. I slept well on the nights when no one occupied the rooms beside me. The walls separating the rooms are not sound proof but it not an unexpected or huge issue. I could not hear any of the traffic noise from busy Central Ave at night.

The comfort of the bed and pillows equally matched those found in high end hotels. I was very pleased. The shower had consistently great water pressure and ample hot water.

I was surprised that I never met the friendly owners so frequently mentioned by other reviewers during my 5 night stay. I did have to make many trips to the front desk as my room key continually failed to work. I tried everything such as keeping it far apart from my cell phone and credit cards. It was a mild annoyance but easily fixed each time by the gal at the front desk.

The breakfast was enjoyable and a great bonus. I always love those make-it-yourself waffle machines. Other options were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, biscuits and gravy. They also had a variety of cereals, yogurts, pastries, bagels and bread for toast.

The only problem was that the breakfast area only has 4 four-seater tables. I would always arrive early but would find myself hurrying to eat to free up my table. I think the eating area could be expanded by adding a counter along the window wall that overlooks the pool. Also the couch in the lobby could be eliminated and the eating space expanded.

Another bonus is the proximity to Old Town. I had planned to walk the 2 blocks until I noticed a number of panhandlers occupying the Walgreen’s corner. Tending to be more cautious as a female traveling alone, I decided to drive instead. ( Of note, the panhandlers did seem to take Sunday off but they were back in place on Monday.)

Overall, I think the value for what you get at Econo Lodge is exceptional. The grounds are well maintained and attractive. It is obvious that the owners take great pride in their hotel. I felt very safe and would not hesitate to stay again.

Dear n2exploring,

I have loved reading your comprehensive and vivid review of your five night stay with us. I love your idea about extending our breakfast area by adding a bar by our indoor heated pool. We have plans to double that space in the near future. I know our guests will be thrilled with the extra breakfast room!

I am so sorry I was unable to meet you while you were our guest. Unfortunately I’ve been in the hospital for the last week. I’m home now and recovering, but that is why we missed meeting. My sweet husband stayed with me much of the time, so that is why you missed him as well. We know our hotel is in great hands when we have to be away, but we still miss being there to welcome our guests. The Econo Lodge Old Town is like our home, and we want to be there to welcome you, as well as see you on your way. I don’t plan on being back in the hospital ANY time soon, so please come back next time you are in Albuquerque so I may have the pleasure of meeting you!

I am thrilled to read about your experience and find out you had an enjoyable stay. I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back as our guest in the near future!

Best Wishes,

I have relatives in Albuquerque. My sister and I have stayed at this Econo Lodge four times. It is a real find. It is a basic motel, but the rooms are clean, the location is great, and the owners are extremely nice and welcoming. The breakfast is a cut above average. We will certainly be back, and I recommend the Econo Lodge Old Town highly for a visit to this pleasant city.
