We recently had the pleasure of spending a night at the High Street Inn. What a treat! We didn't know what to expect as the B&B has changed hands fairly recently, but we were very pleased.
Our hosts were friendly, happy to provide helpful information about the area and dining options, and readily available without being pushy. Their two small children were adorable and well behaved.
The house was just as we gathered from the internet, very Victorian and interesting architecturally without being too fussy. The furnishings are in keeping with the era of the house. Our room was terrific, with a private porch, giant clawfoot tub, sitting area, and huge king sized bed. The room was large enough to easily accomodate a rollaway bed for our 12 year old daughter, with plenty of room to spare.
What made the stay especiially nice was the unexpected extras. In the evening, there was lemonade and cookies delivered to our room. In the morning, there was a table with tea and coffee available at dawn, along with a wide selection of newspapers. Breakfast was both delicious and enormous (we skipped lunch!) and regretfully declined the seconds which were offered.
Our only regret was that we didn't have time to fully enjoy the house or explore historic Petersburg. We hope to return!
