Extremely pleased with our stay at the High Street Inn. Both the house and the room we stayed in - the Blandford - were gorgeous. The room is much bigger than its picture suggests. There was a small fridge in the room and a pot of coffee made for us each morning in the room next door. The breakfast included in the price of the room was absolutely delicious and filling (four cheese omelet one day, cinnamon raisin french toast casserole another, rosemary potatoes, LOTS of fresh fruit).
Our hosts were attentive, accommodating, and just the right level of friendly. For example, not only did Tina ask about food allergies and dietary restrictions in terms of breakfast, but she also asked about and provided the kind of milk I take in my coffee. We were also provided with a map of Old Town and recommendations of what we could find in various eating establishments in terms of both food and entertainment. The house was in walking distance of everything in Old Town.
I was a little worried that our room might be hot considering we were visiting in the middle of a heat wave and many historic houses don't have CACH, but the window AC unit did a fine job.
Petersburg is great for a weekend trip if you like small towns, history, antique shopping, or have a thing for the past. Plenty of nooks and crannies to poke around in, and everyone was friendly, pleasant, and talkative!
