We had a great time camping at Salt Creek with our kids. We camped in a tent in the wooded part of the campground. The views of the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Vancouver Island from this park can't be beat. The sunsets were fabulous and it was fun to watch the ships go by. If you have kids, you should know that they have a large playground at Salt Creek, as well as some old forts to explore. We also had fun exploring the tide pools, which are some of the best we have ever seen. This is a great place to take a family camping.
While camping at Salt Creek, we drove to Port Angeles and took the ferry to Victoria, BC, which was a great adventure. We also looked around Crescent Lake and drove out to Ozette, where we hiked to Cape Alava, the westernmost point in the lower 48.
We also liked the fact that the park has a gate which they close at nite to keep traffic out of the campground. We were disappointed, however, that they didn't do more to enforce quiet hours on weekends, when groups of young people wandered the campground after 10pm making all kinds of noise. The other drawback to this campground is the cool temperatures due to the proximity of all that cold water. We were getting pretty bundled up, even in mid-July.
Salt Creek is one of those best-kept secrets that not many people know about, but which is a really cool place to go. Check it out, you'll be glad you did.
