“Perfect place in Fox Glacier”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2008

Booked this place after a bit of research and was one of the best B&B we stayed on our 2 week trip to New Zealand.
It is owned by a couple with only about 6 rooms. All have french doors with great views of the surrounding mountains. It is about a km or so outside Fox Glacier.
We got there about 6 pm after our pleasant drive from Christchurch. We were invited by Dave who owns the place and showed us around the place. Once we settled, we decided to have dinner at the place itself which Dave cooked for us.
We socialised with the other guests who were also dining there, with wine, cheese and biscuits while dinner was being cooked.
Dinner was very good and the sticky date pudding was exceptional.
Rooms are big with a large bed and large bathroom with all amenities you require.
Dave was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Had a full cooked breakfast which was cooked to order.
We already booked a heli tour of the glacier and mount cook (definitely the highlight of our trip and i cannot recommend it highly enough) and dave was very helpful with ringing them and finding the time and if you havent booked a trip, he can organise it for you.
Overall nice little place away from the hustle and bustle and very much recommended.

“Good B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2008

We stayed at Misty Peaks for 2 nights (5 and 6 April) during our 2 week trip around the South Island. We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite (without requesting it) which had a lovely spa bath and nice views of the glaciers. The B&B is about a 2 min drive to the main eating strip for Fox which only has a few places. We ate at Cook Saddle for the 2 nights and although a little pricey it was fine. You can choose to eat at the B&B with the other guests.

Breakfast was good and everyone ate together which was fun.
We were fortunate enough to have amazing weather so the heli-hike was the highlight of my trip.

“Wonderful location”

This B&B is located just out of town with good views of the surrounding mountains.

Very friendly hosts Dave & Lea who went out of their way to make you feel at home.

Large room with kingsize bed, e/s shower room, TV, easy chairs & small table.

The tea & coffee making facilities were not in the room but available in the guests dining room which meant walking down the corridor to make it and then return. Not ideal in my experience.

Light sleepers were liable to be woken by the noise of helicopters from 7am as the accomodation has several helipads nearby.

  • Liked — comfort of room.
  • Disliked — noise from helicopters.

“Nice Place to Stay While at Fox Glacier”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2008

We stayed one night at Misty Peaks during our 3 week vacation in New Zealand. We were greeted by Lea and a warm cup of tea upon arrival (although it was summer, it was rainy and a bit chilly).

We found our room to be very clean and comfortable . We enjoyed a happy hour wine tasting with the other guests.

We had dinner "in "that night. Dave is a good cook (his steak was one of the better meals we had in New Zealand). We had some lively conversation with the other guests. It was a very convivial evening.

Fox Glacier is very small and we think that Misty Peaks is probably the best bet in town.

  • Liked — The dinner with other guests.
  • Disliked — $5.00 charge for internet.

“Great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2007

We stayed only for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our hosts Dave and Lea were very freindly and helpful with their advise on the surrounding area and our further travel plans. We also chose to have our evening meal at the homestead with some of the other guest, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The room was truly lovely and have wonderful views. They were also able to arrange a helicopter scenic flight for us which was unforgetable.

  • Liked — It was very comfortable and inviting
  • Disliked — Cost of the wine list, would have liked to be able to buy by the glass option
