We got here late evening after a tiring drive of 700 kms + (Te Anau, to Milford Sound and via Queenstown). We were redirected from the heartland Hotel (main street) to this 'sister' property about 200 yds away.
Imagine holding the keys to room 306 (?) and being told that the Hotel has no lift !! Luckily our room was on the 1st floor, but still needed several trips to carry all our luggage upstairs. Gent at recption was helpful.
3 single beds were adequate, the room & bathroom were clean. I was too tired driving to make an evening of it. My wife & son got adequate quality food at a restaurant nearby.
Ample parking available close by.
Unfortunately, overnight rain worsened weather conditions such that all Glacier heli-hikes were cancelled the next day.

Reasonably good value for money.

By the time we arrived in Fox, it was dark and the receptionist was very friendly, he gave ustheir rates and pamphlets on things to do while in Fox. It cost us $160 to stay for a week day night, which I found a bit over priced especially compared to the rest of NZ. It was a nice room, clean, tidy with a woody cottage like feel, cute balcony in this old country style hotel.This hotel has charm.We had a late meal & it was a great hearty meal, just what the doctor ordered including great service. All in all this is a very good friendy stopover while travelling down the west coast of NZ, if the weather wasn't so bad we would have stayed an extra night.

Ok we read the reviews all good & bad & decided to take a chance.

I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Its a bit pricey & yes this is an old heritage building, in the middle of know where & it isn't 4 star quality but we weren't looking for that. It is a good 3 star hotel & they don't profess to be anything else.

There was a big bus tour in & it was very busy, but the staff still found the time to make us feel welcome.

The room was clean & tidy not big, but big enough, we had dinner in the wild goat Cafe at the hotel & it was very nice. The venison pie I had was the best meal I had on our trip to date, you have to try it if you are here.

Don't go here with high expectations, expecting the comforts of city hotels because you are not in the city, you are basically in the outback of NZ. We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel, it has all you need, don't get me started on our stay in Wanaka, thats another review all together which isn't good..

For what its worth you should try this hotel I think you will like it & the Glacier is out of this world.

We had a very disappointing stay at this hotel. Our room was extremely cramped, there were no bedside lights (nor much room for them), the bathroom was dirty & the cups on the hospitality tray had lipstick on the rims. We did complain & received a bottle of wine & some cookies, plus a very wonky bedside light, but no change of room - unlike another complaining guest achieved. On our first night we had dinner in the hotel at the ‘Mountains Goat Café’ & the food was extremely mediocre & unappetising. We were on a 4 week holiday in New Zealand & this was the most expensive & definitely worst accommodation we had in our entire stay. We would not recommend staying here.
