“Beautiful location, a bit expensive”

Overall this casa is very nice, even though a bit expensive. All over Cuba we had very nice casas that were somehow special. All of them costed between 20-25 CUC - in our eyes there is no reason why this casa should cost more.
There is one handicap: there are two rooms (ground floor + first floor) that are quite different, but cost the same. We had the room in the ground floor, which is not spectacular but ok. However it should not cost the same as the room in the first floor.
Apart from that point: location is very nice (but be aware that you are about 3 km away from the city center), place for breakfast close to the sea fantastic, breakfast itself very good (fruit, pancakes, bread, fresh fruit juice etc.), the people helpful (we were allowed to call other casas for our next location), parking in front of the house no problem (you just have to pay the typical 1 CUC per night to the guy who looks after the car), room was clean. Advise: restaurant next door is a fantastic dinner place!

“Very, very good casa in Cuba/Cienfuegos!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights. Very clean comfortable room, very good breakfast, private terrace on the water. Dinner is served in the garden of the next door casa/restaurant (It is highly recommended to eat there). Magalis is the Cuban hospitality and warmth itself. We loved staying here very much!

“ocean side view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

a bit of difficulty in finding the casa ( our own fault) but worth the trouble...located steps from the tip of Punta Gorda, wonderful sunset and sunrise views. Beautiful breakfast too! cheeky sparrows flit about, pestering for bread crumbs. Very clean room, stocked water/beer/wine fridge (prices about double if you buy yourself in town). Spacious room, comfy cot sized twin beds, private 3pc ensuite. The bath a bit rough around the edges (no toilet seat ! well, we were hardly Cuban ADV tourists at this stage so not a big deal) but spotlessly clean.

dinner is served in the next door casa / restaurant - highly recommended to eat there

only reason its not a 5/5 is the noise - a few doors down, the music was blaring until 2am - not sure if this routine or just a one time thing but a slight drag in otherwise lovely casa

“Good but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

I rated this a 4 out of 5 because there's no 3 1/2 and I didn't want to be too harsh in giving it a 3.

Pros: 1) The room is large and comfortable, 2) the private terrasse is amazing (the highlight), 3) breakfast is really good, 4) Magalis makes a fantastic mohito (best we had in Cuba).

Cons: 1) no dinner is served and when asked Magalis said that the kitchen is undergoing renovations. She suggested the restaurant next door (there’s where we went – it was fine). I mentioned to her that she should mention this when travellers look to book with her as many want the full casa experience (maybe we were spoiled in Trinidad). Looking at all the reviews however, it seems apparant that Magalis has never offered meals in her casa. My complaint is not with going to the restaurant - it was with what I felt was dishonesty on the part of Magalis. 2) some issues with cleanliness – a couple of very dirty rugs on the floor, a moldy bath mat, hundreds of little ants all over the main shelving. Lumpy pillows that need to be changed. With a little more cleaning the room would be perfect. 3) all in all, was quite expensive. Casa was the most expensive we encountered and, combined with having to go to the restaurant every night, we ended up paying substantially more than we did anywhere else. Magalis, although sweet, is above all a business woman.

All in all, a beautiful casa but needs a bit more maintenance. I think people should also be aware of the meal arrangements.
