It was to celebrate my 61st birthday so we booked two nights (double room with terrace) on the half board basis for the nights of 28th & 29th March, 2010. We had room 102 at the top of the staircase. It was a comfortable room with an ensuite bathroom & a large terrace overlooking the pool & you could see the mountains too as it was on the end of the row of four rooms facing that way. More hangers would be ideal but there were enough for us for two nights.
You need to understand these are rooms in a wonderful old house, don't expect 'modern'. The whole place is attractive & peaceful, the outside lounging areas were great in the wonderful weather we had.
Staff were very friendly.
Breakfast was basic, great coffee, orange juice, two slices of very lightly toasted white bread, butter, strawberry jam, peach jam, honey, cake. We were brought more coffee & more toast. Restaurant was recently refurbished by the look of it, very smart.
The extra we had paid for dinner was 10€ each & sadly we were not happy with the dinners generally.
1st night we were offered soup or salad but when we asked the really lovely lady what kind of soup it was, her English wasn't adequate & we were just told 'soup or salad' again so we think the young gent who booked us in or Vincent, who spoke English should've taken our orders or just put a menu in English on the board to tell us the choices. We chose soup & it was onion soup with toast covered with cheese, a good choice. The couple at the next table asked for salad & they were served with the most fantastic looking salad each, lots of it & as we love salad we thought 'we'll have salad tomorrow night'. My husband ordered sole, I ordered pork & when it came the chips were salted! I can't stand salt & this is a personal choice so don't salt the chips! I told the lady in my best Spanish that I would like chips without salt please & she rectified this. There seemed to be one condiment set for everyone in the restaurant so thank goodness there were only three tables filled that night, it was pass the salt please. There were two small thin slices of courgettes with the main course. I can never understand why Spain never serves vegetables as the markets are full of wonderful vegetables. We chose a choc tarte for dessert. Wine was 8.50€ a bottle of red & we didn't want more alcohol having had a bottle on our terrace before dinner so we ordered water. It was a 1.5litre bottle 2€.
2nd night : We were SO looking forward to our salads but we served one between us, half the portion of what the couple were served the previous night! We asked for water & the bottle was only 1.1litre that night, still 2€. My husband asked for hake & was served the smallest portion, I'd asked for chicken breast & it was covered in thick instant gravy that was terrible. It ruined a chicken breast that had been perfectly cooked. There were unsalted chips (chips AGAIN!) artichokes & a baby tomato cut in half. It was strawberries & sugar for dessert.
As I had told Vincent, when booking ,that it was my birthday he had the lady bring a bucket on a stand with a bottle of cava reserve in ice so we drank that, it was a nice gesture.
Later when I was using the wifi with my netbook in the lounge Vincent walked by so I thanked him for the Cava & mentioned we had drunk red wine though before dinner & he said 'it will make you frisky!'. Vincent, a word please, that really was too familiar with guests.
Would we return? Yes, definitely but we would only book bed & breakfast. We loved it, it was a real find.
