We very recently stayed at Days Inn Hotel in Barstow, California, for one night, from Saturday 5 November to Sunday 6 November. Unfortunately we were not at all satisfied with our stay. This was due to a disruption in the night, around 1:30am, and the unprofessional service we received from the lady in your reception office following this incident.
My wife and I were both awoken by a horrific grinding and screeching sound at approximately 1:30am on Sunday 6 November. We both got out of the bed, dressed, and went out of our room to see what the noise was. We found that the ice machine next to our room had started making this distressing noise.
We did not know how to make this machine stop the noise and while outside of our room we saw other guests opening their room doors to see what had disturbed their sleep. We returned to our room and called the front desk. The lady in the reception office was not interested in fixing the problem. She said she could not leave the office and we would have to wait until 8am for another colleague to be able to look at the ice machine.
We explained that there was no way we would be able to sleep through the noise that the ice machine was making. The lady did not offer to move us to a different room and said there was nothing she could do. She said we would just have to wait until 8am, then she said ‘bye’ and hung up the phone.
We could not believe the way we were treated. The importance of our comfort and sleep quality during our stay were completely disregarded. Given that we were driving several hours the next day, sleep quality was very important to us and something we would expect a hotel chain such as Days Inn to appreciate.
When we discussed this with the manager he looked at us as if we were lying and wouldn't apologise or make any offers to remedy the situation. Only after he went out and plugged the ice machine in himself did he realise we weren't lying, as the terrible noise started again.
