We were really looking forward to staying here for 2 nights on our Atlanta layover having read the reviews but have to say that we were pretty disappointed. Firstly, on arrival at our designated room, it was right next to the bar and hideously noisy. We asked for a change and were shown to a room that was half the size and really dingy. I them remembered that I had actually booked a suite via lastminute.com and this definitely wasn't a suite. My partner went back to reception to tell them and upon checking we were told that our room had been downgraded, without our knowledge. We were given the last remaining suite, which was okay but not to the standard of other suites we've stayed in. For example:
* You have to pay for everything in the room - even coffee and water wasn't complementary. They do have free coffee in the bar but you have to pay $2 to make it yourself in your room!
* No slippers or robes, which are pretty standard in most hotel suites
* Maid service is not provided daily - our bin wasn't emptied at all while we were there
* No safe is provided in rooms, so there's nowhere secure to leave anything, especially important in the ground floor rooms that have windows opening straight onto the terrace
* We had a kingside bed but the bedding was nowhere near big enough, so the sheets didn't reach across the bed and bared the mattress
* There is no shelf space in the bathroom so there's nowhere to put a wash bag
* The room was pretty tired - eg. the paintwork and furniture was chipped and not in great condition, carpets unpleasant to walk on barefoot (hence slippers would have been nice...)
* We found the hotel to be really noisy - thin walls to the rooms and inconsiderate guests shouting along corridors and in outside spaces at 4am
* On departure, we'd asked for a cab to be booked to take us to the airport, which was 15 minutes late. I understand that that may not have been the hotel's fault, but we stood in reception waiting for check out for 20 minutes before we got any service or attention of any kind
On the plus side...
* The hotel has free wifi which is a good speed and it is in a great location, close to the train station and easily accessible to most attractions
* It's just around the corner from a fantastic restaurant - South City Kitchen on Crescent - highly recommended!
Would we stay here again? Sadly, probably not if we could find somewhere else available at the right price.
Room Tip: If you book a suite or non-standard room, suggest you make it clear at check-in that that's what...
