By most measures, W Atlanta Midtown is a great hotel. However, their obession with style (everything about the W simulates a hip lounge) gets in the way of functionality and the basics of a great hotel.

The rooms and lobbies are quite dark, with heavy emphasis on black. Two lights in my room did not work and other lights were out in the hallway. The bathroom was not cleaned very well and the "rain" style shower had no water pressure and felt more like a Seattle mist than a proper shower.

When I went to put my book away, I found an unexpected surprise in my nightstand drawer: an unsued condom and a frequent customer card from Holly's Cupcakes with two punch outs. I found it a bit humorous but what if a child came across it? You would think they could do a better job with housekeeping. Equally disturbing was a housekeeper who sat on the floor in the hallway (11th floor) near her cart talking on the phone for over 30 minutes. Also a bit surprising!

I have given W 4 stars because it is decent hotel with good staff but also with some obvious problems. If W wasn't so focused on their one word phrases ("Wish", "Whisper", "Wink", etc) and more focused on the basics, this hotel could be 5 stars. My advice? "Brighten", "Clean", "Repair".

We had a great stay at the W! The hotel is in a great location (though it's a little hard to turn left out of the hotel, random I know but it really took forever) for us, since we had a friend playing a show over by Piedmont Park. Check in was easy. You need your key to get up and down the elevator which was kind of random but I understand that it was due to security.

The rooms were very nice; everything looked very modern. However the lighting in the powder area was very dark, which surprised me because there was no way you could actually do your make up there. The beds were sooooo comfortable!

We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel, it was more of a place to lay our heads, but it was a really great place to stay! Very trendy, nice bar, great atmosphere. I would suggest it to anyone who is there on business or going with a bunch of friends. We enjoyed our stay!

Everything you expect from a W (service, comfortable beds, chic style) minus the club feel and super dark atmosphere. The rooms can still use a light or two, but overall this is a much better W than others I have stayed in. For the location and price, I highly recommend it.

General W comment - The Bliss personal care product just don't live up the the rest of the hotel I hope they revise a contract soon and get something a bit better.

This is a beautiful, modern hotel on par with other W properties. The room was clean and large. Staff were friendly. I would definitely stay here again.
