My party consisted of me; 18 years old, and my two grandparents, and we went to this resort in September 2011 for a week. We arrived on tuesday early hours of the morning, with a very friendly taxi driver. A non english speaking receptionist greeted us, and gave us our room and key (which was like a dumbbell). We were situated on the top floor, at the side of the hotel. The room we had was large, the balcony was huge, and there was a single bed in the living room with two chairs, a fridge, tv and a dining table with 2 chairs. The bed was alright, but the pillows were very flat and lumpy. The air con didnt feel like it worked when it was on, and the fridge did not make drink/food cold. We rented out a room to put our things and to be able to go back to on the last day of the holiday, as we had a night flight. This was on the fourth floor, and was tiny.
We were half board (personally i wish we wasnt). You could tell when there was a delivery in the restaurant, because bread would be fresh, and there would be many different options, however, to the end of the week (friday) there would be hard bread, hardly any butter, and the same food every night. the drinks were highly expensive, so we settled for a large bottle of water between us for about €4. The breakfast was alright. There were different things to choose from- cereal, toast, fruit salad (no fresh full fruit), granola, yogurt, bread. The drinks that were avalible : pineapple squash, apple squash, cranberry juice, water (warm), tea and coffee. The waiters were friendly, however did not have a clue to what you was saying to them. We didnt eat at the cold food bar downstairs as it is the same as the normal restaurant.
As for entertainment we didnt go in the nightclub place. There was some entertainment everynight, mainly of singers/keyboard. One night, The Kings Speech film was on. The bar was right next to the outdoor entertainment, and it was pretty cheap. I asked for a Blue Lagoon cocktail, and it was mostly pure vodka (i could hardly walk after drinking it, haha).
The pool was very nice, and big, but when there were any pool activities i felt like i couldnt go in and swim freely. Put it like this. You could not drown in that pool. The amount of salt put in was ridiculous (2 buckets a night).
The sunbeds were of adequate size, however they were far to close together. Umbrellas were up at all times, until it started to rain bad. The view of the sea from the pool area was breathtaking. There are steps at the back of the pool area to go down into the sea. I went to have a dip in the sea, and ended up nearly slipping over on the last step, and saw how deep the drop was into the sea.
The hotel shop was quite expensive, however in a good location. The wifi cost €2.50 for an hour, however could only be accessed in the lobby, and around the pool/entertainment area.
The location of the hotel was really good. We got given a map of the area by reception when we asked where we needed to go to get to the nearest nightlife. The nightlife is a ten minute walk away, and it is close to an Irish bar (football). The bus station is very close by(Bubbiga), however the bus journey to Valetta is not a plesant one. It takes an hour and a half to get there, and the bus gets jam packed. If you are out strolling about, be careful of timeshares.
Overall, I would go back to Malta, but i would rethink going back to the same hotel.
