“Good basic hotel and great location”

We had a great time in Malta we went on the boat trip to Blue Lagoon and where they filmed the Count of Mone Cristo. The hotel is a 10 min walk from Buggiba where the docks are and the bars and restaurants. We upgraded to sea view room and also wanted late check out so ended up experiencing 3 different types of accom. The seaview rooms are the best, clean with beautiful views but be warned the nightly entertainment is very loud in those rooms as they overlook the pool. The TV channels arent in english and you have to pay a deposit for the remote, but they put movies on twice daily in english, You cant hear the 9pm movie as the nightly entertainment drowns it out. The plus side though is that they sing a good mix of Elvis to Bruno Mars and Snow Patrol so we were pleasantly surprised as a younger couple. The breakfast wasnt great - far too busy and hetic but I always say you get what you pay for. One more thing to be mindful of theres a really good indoor pool area but the jacuzzi's are cold, nice on a hot day but you want them hot! We thought that the staff were good and friendly and the location was excellent, please dont be put off by these minor complaints I felt it would be useful to tell people.

Room Tip: upgrade to sea view

“Qawra Palace....disappointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Having stayed at 4 other hotels in the Qawra area in the last few years I felt rather let down overall by the Qawra Palace hotel. Bulit in 1985 (it appears older once inside) it caters mainly for the elderly and appears to have many repeat visitors. Check in was quick and effecient and all staff were very polite and helpfull throughout my stay. The corridors were dull and dated as were the rooms although comfy at least. The hotels facilities were poor, indoor pool was very small and games room (for kids) as basic as it comes. Crazy golf and tennis, looked like it had not been used much at all recently.

The food was very good it has to be said, very tasty and lots of choice at breakfast and evening meal. The dinning area although dated (like most of the hotel) had some charm about it with the rows of lights.
The main bar area was however was terrible. Bland and not welcoming!

The cafe style type bar upstairs on the streeet front was in a different class and much nicer to relax in.
Entertainment, again....geared up for the elder generation (which is fine if you know what to expect), more or less every evening it was bingo or some form or ball room dancing.

Internet charges here are a scandall!
10 Euros for 6 hours.....in ALL areas.

A comparision to two other 4* rated hotels (names withheld).
1) Free in all public areas
2) 15 Euros for a week in ALL areas.

Considering the very limited choice in English speaking TV channels offered at the Qawra Palace, when the weather is not so bad you are effectivley shafted with the internet charges!!

A reasonable hotel but... unless you are staying in the summer season where it boast a great outside pool and bathing area I would not recommended it. Sorry!

went in June 2011,on arrival at 11.00pm hotel look ok but on check in asked if there was food after long journey was told no but could buy some at coffee bar NEVER HAD THAT IN A/C HOTEL.the coffee bar turned out 2 be the best place in this hotel but was not part of a/c.this hotel dos not know what a/c means and is 2 * at best ,the drinks are vile the very cheapest and you get pub measures , food ok but restaurant dirty when people leave the table they just wipe the table no new table cover so you eat off a wet + stained table, pool area was dirty and at 3.30 all beds are removed 4 night entertainment which was very poor, rooms were dated and poor although a friends room on next floor was better, staff were unhelpful as was Thomson rep (but she was dealing with a lot of complaints) please avoid this hotel if you go all inclusive .half board the drinks are ok but not cheap.we spent every night out and loved MALTA and will go back BUT NOT 2 THIS 2* HOTEL THE WORST Iv EVER STAYED IN and iv been 2 a lot

Room Tip: go 2 another hotel

“Sunny Malta”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I travelled to this hotel in July 2011 with my 13 yr old daughter, i have visited Malta many many times in the past so I thought this time I would stop in a different part of the island.

I found the arrival/check in procedure a little slow and the room wasnt ready but they provided a room for us to put our cases while we waited.

The room was basic, we do not expect 5 * luxury as we didnt pay 5 * prices but I was disappointed with the balcony, they were too close together with no privaxy and no view only into a so called court yard with a few trees and chairs.. no what id call a view, the chairs just about fit on the balcony, so we didnt bother using it.

Was good to have a fridge in the room, we were all inclu so we used to get cartons of juice from the bar at night nd then put them in the fridge for the next morning..... the reason for this was that after breakfast the pool bar didnt open until 11am, which I thought was rather late so we used to have the cartons until the bar opened.

The restaurant food was good, not the best ive had but hey tended to do Maltese food which I like, if you prefer burgers and chips you can get these by the pool bar until 6pm. In the restaurant you are allocated a section and each time you go in you have to tell the waiter your room number, you have to queue up for drinks outside of the restaurant and then take them in with you...... i found it a pain having a card for all inclu, much prefer the wrist bands, but i think they do this system as they take your photo when you arrived and thats scanned onto your cards so when you get drinks by the pool they can see theres two people in that room and who they are and know that you are only getting two drinks for yourself.

In the day by the pool i found there would be alot of maltese come up to use the pool, there were steps down to the rocks and no one had watch over this so the locals were coming in using the pool facilities in the day time.

The pool are was kept clean but very packed, in a morning they dont open the doors to the pool area until about 8.20am and people used to be sitting on the floor waiting from 7am in the morning to get a prime spot!! most beds were reserved by 8.40am so be ware!! the most popular area was the raised part over looking the sea, this got the sun all day. You have to pay 1 euro to hire a mattress for your beds.

Evening entertainment was ok, nothing to rave about, mainly music with a singer or just music, seemed to be more locals coming in for that, they had to pay and would come in their droves at the weekends, was ok to people watch but wasnt anything exciting. Depends on your age I guess but my daughter found it boring.

The localtion was good, a short walk round the corner took you into Buggiba centre with plenty of shops etc for your gifts.

We took the bus a few times to Valletta, was a bit too far out for me, took over an hr to get there, stopping at virtually every stop. if you want more central on the island then Selima is far better.

The coffee shop that belongs to the hotel is to die for, this isnt included in the all inc.. which is a definate shame but its worth treating yourself.

Theres also a nice ice cream kiosk that belongs to the hotel too, again really nice ice creams but again you have to pay for them.

They do have cakes by the pool on their menu but if you want this get it when they first open or it will be gone and once its gone its gone which i found bad for all inclusive. The rolls go fast too so if you fancy a sandwich for lunch then get in there early. you can always put it in the firdge in your room.

I enjoyed at night watching the locals on the rocks having their bbq's they come by the hotel so that they get the free music from the hotels entertainment, but its good to watch the locals and have a chat to them. Alot of people were taking pictures of a white hill in the distance, i dont think they knew it was the local tip ha!

Overall i wouldnt visit this hotel again, but then the local was good for Buggiba.

“Good quality hotel on traditional lines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This is a straightforward hotel, somewhat old fashioned, but good value for money. Well located, although infront of a busy road. Good for visiting the local area and catching buses around the island. Staff generally helpful, and the British entertainment couple are excellent. We liked all the food which was well presented. I would stay again and recommend friends. Not The Ritz but good all round.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, third floor
