“Ski trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

I wish to thank Hotel Lo Scoiattolo´s personnel for exceptionary good and caring service during our holiday from the end of Jan to beginning of Feb 2011.
Service was excellent throughout our visit but in addition our friend experienced magnificent care after being broken her knee in the slopes on the second day. The hotel staff drove her from the doctor from 10 km away, visited the pharmacist for her and helped her to and from her room when needed.

Hotels staff`s commitment is exceptional. I am happy to recommend their hotel for anybody visiting Gressonay-la-Trinite.

“Never a 3* in a million years...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

... at least a 4*

Myself and 4 friends have just had a marvellous long weekend at this hotel, and we were blown away byt this place. The hotel is brand new and fitted to a high standard. The rooms are large and comfortable, the restaurant has a wide variety of excellent foods and the staff are freindly. The ski facilities are superb, and the door to lift service is fast, reliable and frequent. We paid €240 to get a 1-way taxi transfer from Malpensa which took only 2 hours and well worth it (vs a car hire alternative).

The skiing will bore you for a week if you like to pound the slopes, but for 4 days there is loads to do.

Compared to anywhere in France, Italy is head and shoulders above and Gressoney is a little known gem that we will all now return to time and again - and the hotel did nothing to make us look elsewhere in future. Only full capacity will prevent us returning here.

Val D'Isere in December was €4,5 for a coke, €16 for Spaghetti, €7 for a small beer. Gressoney by contrast will give 4 adults lunch on the slopes with a bottle of wine for €25.

The only downside is the lack of nightlife - but this is made up for by virtually no lift queues....

“Lovely hotel, stunning ski area ....... not for beginners!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

Stayed here first week in Jan 2011. Hotel had just reopened after major refurb. Rooms were new, spacious, with good quality fittings and furnishings.

Good food - buffet breakfast with choice of 3 courses for dinner. Nice bar and cosy lounge for a few Bombardinos after skiing. Small but welcome spa with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi etc.

Gressoney la Trinite doesn't have much of a social scene apart from a great wine bar by the church - the guy who runs it does a good wine tasting evening - check out the Torrettes.

The resort isn't suited to beginners which is a pity because it's beautiful. Only 4 blue runs in total, but some pretty straightforward reds at Stafal and Punta Jolanda.

Best ski hire deal was with Laurent ski hire on the right before you get to Stafal - €65 for a week for skis/boots/poles/helmet! Lift passes are around €190 for 6 days.

We put our package together independently and saved about £200 each on brochure prices.

First week in January was so quiet - no queues for lifts, piste to yourselves and great weather.

Would definitely go again next year but would need a bit more practice to get the most out of the resort

“Such an inviting, relaxed, friendly and welcoming place to stay- we'll most certainly be back!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2010

Our stay in Gressoney-La-Trinité's Hotel Lo Scoiattolo really was outstanding! From the welcome on arrival, through the friendly service, lovely food, great value for money and lots of helpful information, we loved our time here! The staff were excellent, so accommodating and informative- we even became semi-experts in the La Stemma Walser !! Our hostess Azzura explained about the local history and significance of the emblem- these details made our stay all the more memorable. It is a perfect place to explore also the valleys of Champeluc, and Alagna. The skiing was really lovely and we were lucky to have bright, sunny days almost every day.

“Very clean, good food, lovely village but room and storage a bit small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2009

I stayed on the first floor immediately above the bar. The bar closed at midnight and whilst when I was there it wasn't particularly noisy I would think that if you wanted to go to bed before midnight I am sure there could be times when the noise might be a little too much. Also, they clean the bar at about 6.30am with the vacuum cleaner and that can be heard. I had single occupancy of a double room and I have to say that it was a good job I wasn't sharing because it would have been rather small. At the same time there were about 9 drawers which were fine except they were the smallest clothes drawers that I have ever seen. The wardrobe was quite big although not quite wide enough so that every time you closed the doors the hangers would have to be turned to about 20 degrees. Other than that I have to say that this hotel was was of the cleanest I had every stayed in, it really was immaculate. The food was also very good and the breakfast which was buffet style was superb with so much choice and laid out with such attention to detail it looked beautiful. The staff were helpful and friendly too. The hotel was about 500 metres from the lift but a free shuttle service to and from the lift was very good. The town itself was very pretty and relaxing and quiet. Nevertheless there were ample bars which were not crowded, just pleasant. Gressoney is renowned for its off piste skiing, this is its attraction. Its pistes are intermediate and not very interesting. However it is linked to other resorts which provide variation.
