“Highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The William Miller House. The house itself is beautiful, our room was so comfortable and attractive, Mike's breakfast was delicious and Pat and Mike were amazing hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. We only stayed 1 night so didn't get a feel for the area but we had a delicious meal at a nearby restaurant recommended by Pat and Mike. I highly recommend this B & B.

PS. We had trouble finding The William Miller House - partly because we were arriving after dark and our GPS wasn't working. It's not hard to find if you know exactly where the house is - so familiarise yourself with its location in the street if travelling without a GPS.

“Fantastic Place to Stay - Anywhere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Pat and Mike are the ultimate hosts, and their house is the ultimate place to stop and explore Richmond. Fabulous accommodations, great conversations, and indescribable breakfasts. They printed out maps, information about possible destinations, and were always available. Absolutely the best that we could hope for, and we will definitely return if we can.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms - both are great.

“Top rate B&B!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

We visited in June 2011 and it was our 2nd trip there. Pat & Mike do a great job of welcoming you from the get-go! Mike helped take our bags upstairs (even though we could have done it - nice touch!!), wine/cheese was instantly available (it was very hot when we visited so we had the wine in the garden room - our earlier trip we had the wine on their front porch), the room was wonderful, clean, quiet (the cleanliness was superb!), and the nice extra touches like chocolates, water, etc. were very welcomed! We just visited a B&B in Chincoteague and I found myself comparing it constantly to Wm. Miller House and the Chincoteague was sadly lacking. Mike's gourmet, multi-course breakfasts are to die for and they will definitely hold you until early afternoon or later. His variety is always amazing! We were offered the wine/cheese or coffee/tea both afternoons were were there, and they would sit and chat with us about our day, sightseeing, restaurants to visit, etc. They are thoroughly knowledgable about Richmond and the sites and are very willing to help you navigate your way around anywhere! They pamper you greatly without intruding on your time and make your time there very relaxing and enjoyable. I appreciate their "family style" dining as you get to know the other guests and broaden your horizons! Their house is gorgeous, large and decorated with flair without being overly ostentatious. You can tell Mike & Pat love their house and entertaining guests and they always put their best foot forward for you. Their house and grounds are wonderfully maintained and they do most if not all of the work themselves! If you are planning a trip to Richmond (this house is located directly in the Fan District), do not pass this by!! Absolutely superb accomodations, food and management! Do not miss it!

“How can I ever stay at another B&B after this experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

I’ve been traveling for the past 20 years and my accommodation of choice has always been a B&B. The William Miller House is by far the best one I’ve found in my search for the perfect B&B experience.

Pat and Mike make you feel truly welcomed from the minute you step through the door and enter there gorgeous home. It is spotlessly clean (a huge plus for me), the décor is warm and charming (not a bunch of things thrown together from yard sales), and the many special touches throughout the day that Pat and Mike arrange make the experience one where you, the guest, feel important and well-cared for.

Pat listens to what you find interesting in the city, or plan to do, and she’ll research what you need to know to get you there without complication. For example, I had inquired about attending a Catholic Church service and the next day the schedule of masses was printed and waiting on my bed, along with a weather report for the next day and two yummy chocolates.

All of this wonderful care is done unobtrusively…Pat and Mike strike the perfect balance of pampering you but not hovering or intruding on your time there. I’ve never stayed at a place where this balance has been so well attained.

The breakfasts are simply divine. Mike is a true master in the kitchen. I found myself saying, “I have a song in my mouth,” or “you brought New England’s beautiful fall to me with this dish.” They create an experience for you around their food that is the best I’ve EVER had in any B&B (and most restaurants). And the amount of food served will carry you right through without a pang of hunger to a late lunch.

The 5p – 7p wine and cheese (along with crackers, fruit and/or nuts) comes at the perfect time of day. And you can enjoy it in the garden room, or in the garden, on the front porch. There are many places around the house that are just lovely to relax with your treat or a good book.

Coffee is always available which is another big thing for me. I NEED to have my coffee no later than 600a and Pat has a Keurig machine set up in the dining room just for that.

Both Pat and Mike are so knowledgeable about the city and have maps readily available for wherever you’d like to go. She has a wonderful library of the city’s history and its most famous areas.

I could go on and on…but the bottom line is this: If you are looking for an authentic B&B experience done with taste, caring, and love, this is the place to be. Mike and Pat obviously take great joy in what they do and it shows in everything from the fluffy, white towels to the cozy and personal decor, to the truly exceptional food. An A+++ experience!

“Perfect location + lovely experience”

Pat and Mike know how to make you feel at home (or home away from home, which may be better). The B&B is located in the historic fan district, just off of the VCU campus. We stayed in the Regency Room, which was nicely appointed, had a comfortable bed, and a jet tub. We were treated to an amazing breakfast both mornings and Mike was quick to accommodate our dietary restrictions.
