“OK place to spend the night”

I was in Richmond for a conference. This hotel is located about 10 minutes from downtown Richmond. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. It had a big screen TV, microwave, and mini fridge. Every day I received fresh towels and shampoo and enjoyed the continental breakfast. By far, one of the least expensive hotels in Richmond. Also, across the street is a wonderful Mexican restaurant named, La Casita.

“Worst hotel I never stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2009

We booked this hotel for the Nascar race.. I made the reservation 8 months in advance, had a confirmation but after driving 11 hours when we arrived I was told there was no reservation. The hotel staff kept talking to each other in a foreign language and I determined they wanted to charge us a higher rate than we had booked at becasue of the race. While trying to sort it out, we got a good look at the regular clientelle, including the woman who complained that her fridge hadn't worked for 3 days and all her food was spoiled and her 4 kids were starving. Eventually the manager told us he could give us a room and we would do the paperwork later, which I said no to. We took a look at the room before hand and dceided not to stay there. It was in the back section of the building, the stairwell was full of garbage, the occupants in the next room had their door open and were unsavoury looking, the bathroom was discusting and we didn't look any further. We decided that we would rather sleep in our truck, the room did not appear secure and we were concerned about all of our truck parts still being there in the morning. After much searching we found somewhere else to stay. When I contacted Travelodge head office to find out what happened with the reservation, I was told it was cancelled the day after I made it by the hotel itself. I was completely disgusted that they would do that and not contact me, my theory is that they figured once I got there I would not be able to find another room and would pay what ever they charged for a room. The fact that Travelodge continues to let this hotel remain as part of their chain surprises me.

“Roach motel”

The place was infested with ROACHES!!! We were going to stay the on Sept. 6, 2008 for the Nascar race but after finding the infestation we were out of there. They tried to show us other rooms - just worse though. In one of the ones they showed us we pick up the mattress only to find the roaches scurring everywhere. The sad thing is that it really didn't seem to phase the front desk staff. Luckily we were able to get our money back from Hotels.com and found somewhere else to stay.

“You Got To Be Kidding”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2007

We booked the stay in the Richmond Travelodge based on the reputation, NASCAR sponsorship and promotion, and the Travelodge web-site pictures and descriptions. The weekend rate was $150.00 per room
for two nights each.

Nothing was as it appeared on the website. The rooms were moldy and musty and dirty. Because of the NASCAR event, there were no available
rooms at any other regional hotels. We were without options.

We stayed the first night out of sheer necessity only. Instead of staying a second night - another miserable night in the rooms, we chose to travel 2-1/2 hours to a friends house and clean rooms - we drove until 4:00 a.m. instead of staying another night at the Travelodge.

NASCAR fans - Don't do it! Anyone, don't do it! I would give this property a ZERO rating if I could!

“you get what you pay for”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2007

I've seen cleaner bathrooms in gas stations!
There was some kind of "bodily fluid" on the walls (I know b/c I washed it off with good ol soap!)
The spread had some kind of yellow stain all over the inside of it.
The bathroom had a roach or something dead on the floor.
You should get the hint when you arrive at the reservation area and there is a sign that states "no refund after ten minutes".

EconoLodge use to be a name you can trust - NOT ANYMORE
