We booked this hotel for the Nascar race.. I made the reservation 8 months in advance, had a confirmation but after driving 11 hours when we arrived I was told there was no reservation. The hotel staff kept talking to each other in a foreign language and I determined they wanted to charge us a higher rate than we had booked at becasue of the race. While trying to sort it out, we got a good look at the regular clientelle, including the woman who complained that her fridge hadn't worked for 3 days and all her food was spoiled and her 4 kids were starving. Eventually the manager told us he could give us a room and we would do the paperwork later, which I said no to. We took a look at the room before hand and dceided not to stay there. It was in the back section of the building, the stairwell was full of garbage, the occupants in the next room had their door open and were unsavoury looking, the bathroom was discusting and we didn't look any further. We decided that we would rather sleep in our truck, the room did not appear secure and we were concerned about all of our truck parts still being there in the morning. After much searching we found somewhere else to stay. When I contacted Travelodge head office to find out what happened with the reservation, I was told it was cancelled the day after I made it by the hotel itself. I was completely disgusted that they would do that and not contact me, my theory is that they figured once I got there I would not be able to find another room and would pay what ever they charged for a room. The fact that Travelodge continues to let this hotel remain as part of their chain surprises me.
