“Relaxing Time but could be Improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

We were well warned about the bumpy road but it wasn't really too bad and our standard Fiat rental car was fine. This was a really relaxing holiday in a a tranquil setting and although the hotel and pool are small we didn't find it crowded and felt perfectly able to spend our time as we wished. The room was small but adequate and equipped with everything we needed apart from free water. There is a notice (hard to spot) that the water in the rooms isn't drinkable but the hotel then only provides small chargeable bottles in the mini-bar. At this price level it should really be providing at least one litre of free water per room. The food in the restaurant was very good but we were disappointed that there was no variation in the menu all week with only one "special" being offered. Similarly, although we went to breakfast well within the appointed times, the buffet often seemed to run out of items (pastries and meats) which were either not replenished at all or only very slowly. Wines on offer were excellent and reasonably priced (one of the Sardinian wines we drank was the same price retail in the airport shop) and the accompanying advice, especially on local wines, was very good indeed. The restaurant is popular with locals so best to make sure you reserve especially at weekends.
The spa might be small but treatments were excellent

“Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

This hotel is magnificent. Beautifully set in the hills above the Costa Smeralda with views of the coast from one side and views inland from the pool area. The rooms are separate to the reception area and each room is in a traditional style building that look quite plain from the outside but are very stylish inside. The area around the pool is very well kept and the pool, although too small for any serious swimming, is perfect for a dip. The hotel also has two Scotty dogs who entertained everyone by chasing the small lizards all over the grounds.

We had fantastic weather when we were there which made the whole experience idyllic. If the weather was bad there might not be much to do there but it is certainly a risk I would be willing to take.

The road from San Pantaleo is basically a dirt track and feels much longer than the 2km it says on the signpost but it is well worth it.

We got a good deal on the accommodation but the evening meal is quite expensive as are the drinks. Saying that this is the Costa Smeralda so it is probably unfair to compare those prices with other areas. If you want to eat in the village there are several reasonably priced restaurants with very good food.

The village of San Pantaleo is gorgeous with a lovely cafe called Cafe Lucia on the Piazza facing the church.

The only thing I would say is that we weren't told much about the spa facilities and I was surprised to see the management response to the last review saying some were available for free.

“Idyllic getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

Gorgeous hotel set up in the hills, with fantastic views over the costa smeralda. Breakfast in the hotel is lovely, as is the evening meal if a little pricey. One word of caution on the location it is down a very long very pot-holed track. Spa only offers small range of treatments and none of the heat room are included in the price.

Dear Allaboutchocolate.

Thank you very much for your review, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Regarding your comments about the wellness centre, we offer a carefully selected range of specialised treatments and massages based on oriental disciplines as well as aromatic and relaxing massages, personalised treatments, mud packs and scrubs. Please note as well that the steam room and roman sauna, as well as the special-effect showers are in fact free of charge for all hotel guests. I apologise if this was not sufficiently clear.

Yours sincerely,

Daniel Clarke

“The Dream location for our wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

We wanted a very special, exclusive and beautiful destination for our wedding and this is exactly what Petra Segreta turned out to be.
We hired the resort for exclusive use from Friday to Sunday and can say it was the most magical time of my life.
Darling Daniel (Mr Mole) and his team worked so hard in ensuring all our needs were met.

Its not a cheap offering, so if you are on a budget go to The Valdiola Hotel in Cale Di Volpe. but if you want pure unuldulterated relaxed bliss, this is your place.

The Rustic Chic design throughout is breathtaking, and our guests cried when they saw the view at the back of the hotel.

The spa team worked on us 2 at a time and the treatments were excellent.

“Totally Unmemorable”

The setting is beautiful - not remarkable, there are lots of pretty spots in the world, but beautiful all the same. The rooms and facilities are fine - if almost entirely character-free. I could have been staying at a Westin.

The staff and service were a different matter. Mostly polite (with one key exception in the waiting staff). Mostly competent. But behaved, even by the 4th day, as if they'd never seen us before. That is of course, if we could find them. I think there was probably a lead time of 20-30 minutes on getting a drink in this place. Even at sunset, sitting by the (permanently unmanned) bar. You'd think that this sort of service pays for itself - we were after all, looking to spend money.

However nice the location - and there are many places that offer these sort of views - the service just wasn't good enough for the money, and leaves me with no emotional connection to the place at all. Try somewhere else.
