Recently renovated, very clean, small boutique hotel feel. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Only thing was having to walk past the cemetery to get back to the room which became a little bit creepy at night. Otherwise everything else about it was great.

I recently stayed at the Sheraton Commander on a professional trip to Cambridge. This is an older hotel, but has been thoughtfully renovated. My room was extremely comfortable, spacious, with a fine king-sized bed. I particularly appreciate that the rooms are not all "cookie-cutter" configurations, as in so many modern hotels. Mine faced the front and had a desk spanning two of the three front windows that was at least 10 feet long--extremely useful for laying out papers and working. The Internet connection was free and worked well. The closet was in a separate large alcove with plenty of room to lay out my suitcase out of the way. There was a quality clock radio that provided excellent reception for both Boston NPR stations and decent sound. The restaurant is pleasant with several delicious light options for dinner (though it seemed pricey for breakfast).

Now the negatives: there were no real glasses or coffee cups--only plastic or paper. I expect this at the $89 Day's Inn, but at an up-scale hotel like the Commander I expect a real glass to enjoy a wine at the end of a long day--it's one of my litmus tests for hotel quality. And the elevators are small and slow. But on the whole my stay was a good experience.

I recently stayed at the Sheraton for a friend's wedding in Cambridge. I loved the room me and my husband had with a king sized bed - it was very clean and thoughtfully laid out; my sister and a friend each had rooms with double beds, and they each had a bathroom with a separate changing/make-up room - I saw that and wished I had booked a similar room (next time!!!). The staff was courteous and knowledgeable; and we had breakfast down in the hotel's restaurant every morning - I have to pay a special compliment to the staff member, I think her name was Adriana, who greeted us in the restaurant each morning; for she provided outstanding service - she was cheerful, kind and helped us with our odd food requests. The restaurant's manager was also helpful in securing a place for the wedding party to relax and enjoy some post-wedding drinks with the exhausted bride and groom, despite another client having booked most of the bar for a function. That made us very happy, and the cocktail list was creative!
This hotel is also conveniently located to Harvard and central Cambridge, it is about 10 minutes' walk into town, where there is plenty of shopping and places to eat. I would definitely stay here again.

I stay at the Sheraton Commander every time I come to Cambridge which is about twice per month. I have been staying here for years for a number of reasons.

Because I do a lot of flying around the world, being able to open windows -- even just a bit - in hotel rooms is important to me. You can do this at the Sheraton Commander. In addition, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The newly remodeled restaurant and bar is good, and allows you to pop down for a drink or food if you don't feel like going out.

The one down side is the slow speed of the elevators, but that's a minor inconvenience overall. This is not a luxury hotel, but it's comfortable and warm, and I keep going back.
