“Quite Nice - Will Return”

MP Inn was lovely. Reserving through an online discount B&B website for the price we paid (or what we were willing to pay) got Room 17 on the third floor. It had a small fridge, sink, desk, small closet, and a private bath with a removable shower head due to the slope of the ceiling. My husband and I found it QUITE FINE.

The breakfasts were excellent, with a choice of full or continental. We like walking and enjoyed the 10 minute walk to Harvard Square where we had business during our 3 day/2 night stay. We also rode the bus back one night (the 77 or the 92). The bus stop is less than a two minute walk from the Inn - - and don't worry, you don't hear traffic at all because the inn is on a quiet side street. (Cute shops nearby, btw.)

I much preferred this experience to any hotel in Harvard Square, but if you plan to spend oodles of time in your room, you may want a different room than the one we were in (for a higher price). We may end up doing that when we return. But if you essentially want a clean, comfortable place to stay with a sense of charm and a good breakfast to get you started for the day, you will not be disappointed.

“Do not book with Priceline!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

This review is more a reflection of bad communication at Priceline with the Mary Prentiss Inn. We had booked a BIG room that accommodated 3 -- with a cot -- and paid a premium price through priceline (we paid more than any price they normally charge!). When we got to the Inn the only room was the smallest room (much less per night than what we paid) and the staff thankfully after a brief discussion managed to bring in a cot (otherwise we would have been 3 in a double bed -- not a dream holiday by any stretch of the imagination). Apparently one should go direct with these kinds of small Inns/ B & Bs and my recommendation is to call the Mary Prentiss Inn directly and definitely stay clear of Priceline. The people at Mary Prentiss Inn were helpful but the price was paid and it was really a reflection of a Priceline error (which they refused to do anything about). The only thing that was mediocre was the breakfast ... everything else was just fine.

“A lovely gem in the heart of Cambridge, MA”

I loved staying at the Mary Prentiss Inn, a lovely bed and breakfast in Cambridge, MA. Delicious hot and cold breakfast, ample coffee and to go cups for those of us on the run were wonderful. Afternoon goodies beckoned, even though i had just had a late lunch with my sis, who lives in Cambridge. I'm actually headed back up again this weekend and will stay at the Mary Prentiss. I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Primo location is on the deck/patio, though i stayed in a room on the 2nd floor which was well appoi...

“Elegant and charming oasis near Harvard and Tufts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

My wife and daughter stayed here when my daughter was visiting colleges in the spring and my wife and I are staying here now (August) to help her move into her dorm room. My wife loved it so much the first time that she wanted to return this time.

This is a set of three lovely buildings (I think they must have 2 or 3 adjoining lots) with gorgeous flowers in large pots everywhere on the deck between the buildings. Our room was well-appointed with a comfortable queen bed and a wide range of pillows, flat screen TV that we never turned on, shower, Jacuzzi, bureau, small secretary, one chair, and a closet. The air conditioning worked well and was welcome relief after walking the Freedom Trail on a warm, humid day. The water in the shower took several minutes to warm up, but was a nice shower after it did. The breakfasts were filling and delicious. We had our choice of a full breakfast (e.g. vegetable fritatta with bacon or French toast with sausage) or continental breakfast (e.g. granola, oatmeal, and fruit), served in the dining room, sun room, or deck. There is off-street parking under the inn, but there's little room to maneuver cars down there and I can see how easy it would be for cars to get dings or scrapes. Also, when the place is full, cars have to be parked in areas that block other cars from getting out, which means moving your car when other guests are checking out or entrusting your key to one of the staff. Street parking is by permit only, so not an option for guests. A nice touch was finding bottles of water and chocolates waiting for us in our room. Free wi-fi is available, as are a computer and printer in the dining room. People with cat allergies should be aware that a cat likes to hang out in the dining room.

Overall, this is an elegant, charming, and welcome oasis in the busy city around it. It is convenient to both Harvard and Tufts. Downtown is easily accessible via subway at Porter Square, which is about 5 blocks away. It took about 20 min to get from the front door to the Park Street stop.
