Fairfieds are at the budget end of Marriott properties (although not really budget priced), so I adjust my expectations. The plusses of this property: clean rooms, generally well maintained, decent internet access, well stocked free breakfast, and friendly, helpfull staff. The minusses: smallish rooms, old TVs, and worst of all, a spa tub with mold. To the management - fix that, it just takes a little bleach!

The hotel is convenient to restaurants and things to do in Springfield.

We walked into three other hotels in the vicinity. The first one smelled like smoke the moment we walked into the lobby so we left; the second one didn't have any vacancies and the third had a small, dated lobby and the desk clerk was away, so after a few minutes we left. The desk clerk at this hotel was very friendly and helpful and discounted our room since it was the last one available. Our room looked a little dated and was on the small side but the bed was very comfortable. Little things were off, such as the alarm didn't work and neither did the outlet for the hair dryer. The breakfast area was small but there were enough healthy choices for a good start to the day. For the discounted price, it was fine. I wouldn't be as happy if we had paid full price.

First, any hotel, no matter how budget in 2011 that doesn't have a flat screen TV loses a star.

Next, any hotel that writes down the wrong room number at check in and directs you and your family to an occupied room at 11:00 pm loses a star

Finally, it lost a star for the line of mold on the water line in the hot tub. Ewwwwwwww ! !

That being said the place was adequate. The rooms did seem a bit humid and dank but it was hard to put your finger on what exactly was wrong. The breakfast was adequate and the free wi fi and computer in the lobby were nice touches.

Bed and room was clean and tidy, but the room felt kind of a dank, humid. Generally, the hotel had a slightly worn feeling to it.
No fitness room. The whirlpool next to the pool (which i didn't use) looked pretty nasty with an offwhite thick foam covering most of the surface. Breakfast was light but adequate.
Convenient to I-72 and lots of nearby fast food and discount store options. Safe location.
I'd stay here again if traveling through.
